ANZAC Day - Lest We Forget

In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

ANZAC Day 2017

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grown old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

ANZAC Day 2015 - 100th Anniversary

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in 2015. Where the Australian and New Zealand troops fought against the Turks. The ANZACs had no idea what they were getting in to.

It is a significant day in our history.Today, ANZAC Day is a day where we remember the fallen soldiers and those that have served not just in World War I but from all armed conflicts and peace keeping operations. Thank you to all who served and are still in the services. Your hard work and dedication is appreciated.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grown old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
 we will remember them.

ANZAC Day 2014 - Lest We Forget

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grown old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.

Today marks the 99th anniversary of  when Australian and New Zealand troops landed at Gallipoli in 1915 the soldiers had no idea what lay in store for them. ANZAC Day is a day where we remember the fallen soldiers and those that have served not just in World War I but from all armed conflicts and peace keeping operations.

I'll be watching the ANZAC Day march on tv later. I'd better keep the tissues handy *sniff* I get so emotional just thinking about what these men and women have done for us. I just know I'll end up getting all teary.

5000 Poppies Project

I follow, or should I say like, a lot of different crochet pages on Facebook. I came across a post about a wonderful project called 5000 poppies.

Poppies have long been associated with the battlefields of World War I. They are now considered a symbol of the lost of those on the battlefield and hope for those left behind.

The 5000 Poppies Project gives fibre artists the chance to contribute to a field of poppies that will be on display in Melbourne on ANZAC Day 2015. It will be part of the 100th anniversary commemoration. You can find out more about it on their website HERE. They explain it much better than I can.

Here's the Facebook group if you wish to check it out 5000 Poppies and a link to their poppy pattern page.

I know I will be adding to their poppy collection. I think it's a wonderful idea to be part of something so special to honour our service men & women.

ANZAC Day is one of the most important days of the year for Australia and New Zealand. It marks the anniversary of their first combined military action in Gallipoli, Turkey during World War 1. If you wish to find out more about what this day means please click here.

I'm going to watch the ANZAC Day march shortly and the dawn service that will be televised from Turkey. *sniff* Can someone please pass the tissues? I know I will need them. I'm such a sook when it comes to ANZAC Day.

ANZAC Day

I was watching the ANZAC day march this morning, in fact it is still on TV at the moment, and I just couldn't stop crying. In fact each time I watch it I get all misty eyed. Just call me Little Miss Sensitive!! I guess its because I think of people like my Grandpop who put his age up for the WWI and then put it down for WWII. Then I think of all the old folk who are no longer marching because they have passed away. It's so sad to realise that the regiments have less and less people in them now.

All of this makes me realise that I should phone Dad up later today to see how he is getting on. He was going to Mallala this morning for the Dawn Service there.

What a week!

What a busy week it has been for us. We've been to meetings. visiting Mark's family, and forgetting important appointments (oops).
On Monday Mark had an appointment and we totally forgot all about it. We'd gone into town to pay for the big fellas paediatric appointment and then went on to do the weekly grocery shopping but we forgot that Mark had an appointment near the paediatric rooms at 12:15 that day. I can't believe that it totally slipped my mind. I am usually so good with appointments. Of course I didn't click that we had missed it until much later that night. Mark said oh well lets phone in the morning and make a new appointment. Well we couldn't because it was ANZAC day the following day.
Tuesday was ANZAC Day. Mark got the boys up early so that they could go to the dawn service. The boys wanted me to go but I didn't want too. Perhaps I should've though. They boys were absolute terrors misbehaving and fighting one another. Mark got fed up with them and warned them that if they did one more thing wrong they would go home. Well they stuffed up big time and they came home. Maybe if I had gone with them they would've stayed for the whole session. I'm so ashamed of the boys. I told Dad last night when we phoned him how they behaved and he was NOT impressed at all. Shame on the boys!!
Later on Tuesday we went to Mark's Dads and step-mums place for a late lunch. We got to meet Marks sister and his new nephew. His nephew is so adorable! He's only 7 months old but what a cutie he is!! I'm sure that there will be stacks of girls running after him when he gets older!!The boys were reasonably well behaved while we were there. Although I did make sure that they took their medication before we left home and I made them take their lunchtime tablet that I don't always make them take when we stay at home. I guess the boys were exhausted after their early morning because they both fell asleep in the car before we got home.
This morning there was another appointment at the High School. We're averaging one a week at this stage and the big fella hasn't even been there for the last 3 weeks. This time he was included in the meeting where we went over all the details of what happened the day he got suspended. He had forgotten a lot of it and was told exactly what happened. I cannot believe how the teachers have bent over backwards for him and he had just thrown everything back in their faces. If I had known exactly what had happened the day he was suspended he would've been one sorry boy. His home room teacher was trying so hard to help him but he didn't even listen to her until she said she was going to phone me. Then he finally decided to follow instructions, however that was only temporary. I still cannot believe that he is such a horrid kid sometimes. So after all of this was explained the Acting Vice Principal went through all the expectations required from Brodie. About the green card system they have set up for him (and other students like him). It was explained to him that for the next few weeks he will be a part time student. That he will be picked up at lunchtime next week and taken home & that if his behaviour after a review at the end of the week is up to scratch that the following week he will be able to stay longer. Depending on his behaviour and his willingness to co-operate with everyone will determine how long he remains at school during the day. That I or Mark will be phoned to collect him if he misbehaves and doesn't follow instructions. While in our meeting I told the school about the paediatrician visit and how we are modifying the big fellas medication at the moment and that by the end of next week he will be on a lower dosage of epilim. That I have arranged for GCAMHS to assist us once the referral from the paediatrician is sent to them. That I have asked Anglicare for help and that they will be assigning a case worker to us within the next 2-3 weeks to help us at home with any problems we are having.I also asked the school whether they are going to get the big fella assessed and they said that hopefully next Tuesday he will be working with a lady who is current assessing ALL the year 7 children at the school and that he should be able to be seen then. The sooner the better I hope.
I just hope that the big fella realises that everyone is bending over backwards to help him and to make things run more smoothly for him. The AVP said today that he hopes Brodie realises that he is lucky that his Mum and Mark are so supportive because there are a lot of parents out there who would just wash their hands of things saying that it was the schools problem and they should deal with it on their own. Perhaps one day the big fella will see all of that and know that we do care for him or we wouldn't be going through all of this extra work if we didn't.
Ok its time for me to finish this thing because I need to have lunch and get ready to go to the Primary school to do the newsletter & wait for the little dude to have his guitar lesson. I sure do hope that I can just sit down and relax tonight. It's been a busy day today.

Another Meeting at the High School

Yet another meeting today at the High School. On the drive up there I was looking at the suspension notification form that the school gave me last week so I could check the dates of when the big fella is able to go back to school. I got SO MAD when I read it. With Easter holiday included during the break and ANZAC Day next week the big fella can go back to school on the 1st of May! I am SO MAD! I cannot believe that the school did this. Did they take into consideration that the 4 day Easter break was during this suspension time?? What about the ANZAC Day holiday?? Did they take that into account too?? Apparently the Acting Principal did, so he told me today. WHAT ON EARTH WAS HE THINKING??? I asked him if he realised that with the previous 4 day suspension it means the big fella has only spent 2 days at school in FOUR WEEKS!!! I don't know if he cared or not. In fact I do remember him saying that his behaviour warranted it. For goodness sake the big fella doesn't even remember exactly what happened!! I am still SO MAD right now!
There is so much more I could write right now but I just can't. I'm so worked up that I cannot think past my anger and how I just want to cry. I'll just leave this for now and perhaps I can think more clearly tomorrow.
