Crochet Blankets & Afghans

I have been making blankets for Brodie to take to the nursing home that he volunteers at. Sadly I don't have pictures of all of the blankets I have made.

It is good to know that the blankets are finding new homes where they will be appreciated. Brodie was telling me that some of the residents wanted to pay me for the blankets they received. I don't do it for any returns. I just make them because I want to give them something to keep them warm this winter.

This one was so soft when it was completed.

I was able to use a lot of scraps up for this corner to corner blanket,

The colours on this one looked great.

I finally managed to use up all of the variegated Ice Yarn that I had in this purple/pink shade.

I am currently working on this one. The pattern is called Heart to Heart from Crochet Treasures.

WIP - Crochet - Under The Sea Blanket - Clown Fish Applique

This clown fish looks a bit big to be Nemo so it must be Marlon his Dad.
The pattern for this applique can be found HERE on Ravelry

WIP - Crochet - Under The Sea Blanket

I've decided to start hooking again!
Although for some reason, I am not very enthusiastic about it. I need some motivation!

I at least managed to complete a fish for my first square, a blue tang.

I am hoping that by the time I complete a few more squares in I may feel a bit more enthusiastic about this project.

WIP - Crochet - Heart to Heart Blanket

It seems a bit daft to crochet a blanket in the warmer weather but here I am making a blanket.
It's the same style that I have made before. The pattern is called Heart to Heart.

The colour in the top photo shows the colour of the yarn better than the photo below. Although, you can see the pattern more clearly below.

Finished Item - Crochet - Framed Hearts Blanket

I love how this blanket has turned out.
It's definitely one that I shall make again.
I think the lighter the yarn colour the better you can see the pattern.

I haven't blocked this blanket.

You can find the framed hearts pattern HERE on Ravelry

WIP - Crochet - Framed Hearts Blanket 2

Yes, this definitely looks better with these colours than it did with the other yarn.
And thankfully I have the hang of this pattern now and I haven't really needed to pull it apart to correct any mistakes.

WIP - Crochet - Framed Heart Blanket

Even though I have just made this pattern I thought I would give it another go using a lighter coloured yarn. It looks so much better than the darker blue and purple.

Finished Item - Crochet - Framed Hearts Afghan

This certainly was an interesting colour choice that Brodie made.

oops don't look at the very top of the blanket.
I ran out of purple yarn & had to change it

I know I had to frog a few rows every no and then because I wasn't concentrating on the pattern but it did turn out nicely. In fact I am beginning another one in this style but in lighter colours.

You can find the Framed Heart Pattern on Ravelry

WIP - Crochet - Framed Hearts Afghan - Part 3

I decided to take a photo of this blanket on my kitchen table. I was hoping that the lighter background of the table would help show the shapes of the heart. I think it worked. Although I also believe that if I had chosen a different coloured yarn it would have made a big difference.

Hopefully one more repeat of the pattern and this blanket will be long enough for a border.

WIP - Crochet - Framed Hearts Afghan - Part 2

Slowly but surely this blanket is growing.
I have found that it is quite easy to make mistakes and that I need to frog a row or two every not and then. Maybe I am just easily distracted as I watch TV while crocheting.

It's a shame that you can't see the hearts properly in the photo above. They are difficult to see in the purple. Next time I'll place something underneath when I take a picture so they stand out more.

WIP - Crochet - Framed Hearts Afghan

This pattern, Framed Hearts, is from the same designer who created the Heart to Heart Afghan.
I had a few problems with this and needed to frog a couple of rows when I spotted a mistake. At least I found them early on as I worked.  Brodie chose the colour combo that I am using, purple and blue.

Finished Item - Crochet - Heart to Heart Afghan

I wanted to do another repeat of the pattern in pink but I lost at yarn chicken.
I ended up starting the border instead.

It's not a huge blanket but it is still large enough for a bassinet or a pram.
I do love the colours. They look rather sweet and delicate.

I shall definitely be using this pattern again. It is really easy to make up.
The Heart to Heart pattern can be found on Ravelry.

WIP - Crochet - Heart to Heart Afghan Part 3

Love, love, love how this is turning out. It looks very effective.
I bought the pattern that is the opposite of this where the heart is made of treble crochet (US DC). It's called Framed Hearts and is from the same designer.

The blanket is wide enough but not long enough. I am thinking it needs at least two more repeats before it is complete. I'll see what it looks like after the next colour.

WIP - Crochet - Heart to Heart Afghan Part 2

I think this is looking good!
I can't wait for the next colour to be complete to see how it looks then.

WIP - Crochet - Heart to Heart Afghan

I found the pattern when it was a freebie on Crochet Treasures but I couldn't find the link for it on their site. However, it is now available HERE on Ravelry.

I don't think I have enough of the pink to do too many repeats of this pattern
so I am adding two other colours.

I went to find the end of the yarn in the middle of the ball ...
I hate when this happens *sigh*

Finished Item - Crochet - Kaleidoscope Blanket

I love how no matter what angle you look at this blanket it looks amazing.

It measures just over 150 cm x 150 cm

Now I need to work out what my next project will be ...

WIP - Crochet - Kaleidoscope Blanket Pt 4

It is taking so much longer to finish each section of this blanket. Although I have to admit it is totally worth it. It is even worth having to sew in all of the ends as well. That being said I don't believe that this blanket is big enough yet.

WIP - Crochet - Kaleidoscope Blanket Pt 3

Not that I am biased or anything but this is looking really good (~_o)
The only thing that is slowing me down is sewing in the ends but that being said I am glad that I am working them in as I go. I would hate to think how many ends there would be in total if I left them until the very end!!

WIP - Crochet - Kaleidoscope Blanket Pt 2

Slowly but surely it's getting there!

Oops I noticed a mistake but I have already sewn the ends in. When I sew them in there is no hope of them ever coming undone again. I hope that no one else picks up the error. Oh well, it makes for a very unique blanket!
