WIP - Crochet - Under The Sea Blanket

I've decided to start hooking again!

I am making an Under The Sea Blanket by Teri Heathcote.

Although for some reason, I am not very enthusiastic about it. I need some motivation!

I at least managed to complete a fish for my first square, a blue tang.

I am hoping that by the time I complete a few more squares in I may feel a bit more enthusiastic about this project.

I have another baby blanket to make and set aside. Lots of friends from Church are expecting babies or grandchildren. Also one of Brodie's friends. I want to make sure I have them ready to give to the mums before the babies are due.

This would have to be one of my favourite squares for this particular blanket.

"Dory" works up so easily and looks really good.

Oops I goofed with the seal. It is meant to have a white patch under it's nose.

By the time I realised I had forgotten it the nose was already sewn on to the face. It still looks good though.

I finally began making the appliques for my new Under the Sea Blanket.

WIP - Crochet - Under the Sea Blanket

I don't usually have more than one project going at a time but I am waiting patiently for the new applique to be released from Knot Your Nana's Crochet Woodland Blanket. So, I have decided to make another blanket in a different design which is also from Knot Your Nana's Crochet.

I decided to use this beautiful variegated yarn as one of the background colours. To be honest I would have loved to use it for colour pooling but the colour changes happened to rapidly and it wouldn't have been suitable. Not to worry it makes a lovely 'water' backdrop. Three squares down. Six to go but they wont all be in the same colour.

I love how this blanket has turned out! 

Each of the appliques were very quick to make up.

Before the border

I did a plain border around the blanket. I am not too sure if I should have. Perhaps next time I make a blanket like this I shall try something else. Although I have no idea what it would be.

WIP - Crochet - Under The Sea Blanket - Sea Turtle Applique

Meet Crush the sea turtle (~_o) 

Yet another super quick and easy work up with this applique.

It's certainly different to the other turtle pattern from Teri at Knot Your Nana's Crochet.

WIP - Crochet - Under The Sea Blanket - Seal and Whale Appliques

I have named this seal Sammy. It seemed appropriate. Sammy isn't exactly like the seal in the pattern from Knot Your Nana's Crochet. You see I ran out of grey yarn and I didn't have enough to make the legs at the front. Oops. You can still see that this is a seal though.

This is Wilma the Whale.

Yeah I know I named this one too. As with the seal it seemed appropriate to give her a name. She's a blue whale (~_o) because I used blue yarn of course.

Here's the seahorse. I couldn't think of a name for this one. 

This too was very easy to make up although I think I made the tail far too long.

It's Henry the Octopus.

Well, okay it's not Henry from the Wiggles. He's the wrong colour and he doesn't have a hat on but it's the only octopus I could think of that's related to a kids programme or song.

He still looks good though, right?

This is Jaws, the great white shark.

It looks rather round for a shark but at least it looks like a shark!

WIP - Crochet - Under The Sea Blanket - Dolphin and Puffer Fish Appliques

I'm not too sure that the dolphin I created actually looks like a dolphin. I think I messed up the placement of the dorsal fin. Oops. Oh well.

The puffer fish however does look like a puffer fish to me.

It's hard to believe that the backgrounds for both of these pieces is the same colour. That's what happens when you photograph one during the day and one in the evening.

I had almost forgotten how much fun crating little appliques for blankets was. 

They make up relatively quickly. The only part that takes the longest is sewing it altogether.

Brodie and I nicknamed this one Sebastian from the Little Mermaid. I always thought he was a lobster but it turns out he was actually a crab.
