What Are These Flowers?

While the rest of Victoria and all of South Australia are suffering from horrible weather, black outs and flooding we have been blessed enough to have escaped most of the rain.

Look at that blue sky! Brodz and I enjoyed the sunshine yesterday.

I just love looking at all the flowers when Brodie and I go for our walks.

I have no idea what these plants are but they look very pretty.

Saturday In The Park

I love seeing animals in the park when Brodie and I go for our walks.
These ducks were waddling off in front of us as we headed in to town.

At least the noisy corellas weren't around this time. Just the ducks.
It's a good thing we went for a walk on the weekend because the weather hasn't really been the best for being outdoors. It's the kind of weather when you just want to stay inside and read or crochet.

Roses, Roses Everywhere!

Angus and I spotted these in Civic Park last night when we went for a walk after dinner.

Our Morning Walk

Brodie and I got back a short time ago from a walk we did this morning. Boy was it a BIG walk for us. We went on a different route than we normally do. Mainly because I wanted to see some other pretty gardens in our neighbourhood and I wanted to take some photos of the flowers that I saw.

I can't get over how many steps I did!! Or how far I walked!

Gosh these flowers look amazing!!

I have no idea what these ones are but they are so pretty!!!!

Good old bottle brush!

I Love My Town

Yesterday Brodie and I went for a 3 km (1.8 miles) walk around town. Part of it was through Civic Park. It looked beautiful and I had to take photos of the pond and waterfall.

We are so blessed to live where we do.

Flowers

I'm thinking I may need to expand the area where I walk so that I may be able to find more pretty flowers to photograph. Here's another plant that I spotted on a walk.
I wish I was better at gardening so that I knew what these are.

Even MORE Flowers

I just love Spring time! I get to see ALL of these pretty flowers while out walking.
These are ones I spotted with Brodie.
I just wish I knew what type of flowers they are.

Fun Outdoors

Brodie & I joined an exercise class this morning in town *shock horror* It was held outside in Civic Park. Although it was cold outside this morning I sure worked up a sweat. It was loads of fun & I didn't over do it. In fact Brodie & I shared lots of laughter as we "worked out" so it didn't feel like a work out.

I wanted to join a group so that I would get moving & not sit around so much. The main reason for this is I want to maintain my weight (or even lose a little more) and to keep getting good blood glucose levels so if that helps then I'll make this a regular thing. I'm not too sure yet though. I might be able to decide after another session or two.

After our session we went for a little walk around Civic Park to cool down a little and take some photos of the pond. Brodie used his new camera (he swapped his motor cycle helmet for Mark's point and shoot digital camera) and I used my phone.

Where we did our coreball exercise class

I love this little waterfall.

Not that you can see it but there was a beautiful parrot hiding in that tree.

I don't feel too bad after our little fun outdoors. Although I do feel like I could probably use a cat nap right now *yawn*. I checked my BGL when I got home and it was 5.4 mmol. Which I think is pretty good after brekky and exercising. I must have done something right (~_~)

Around The Neighbourhood

I went for a walk this morning *shock horror* all on my own too! In order to prove that I went for a walk I took photos (again) but at least this way you get to see a little bit more of my neighbourhood. Not that I needed to prove I went for a walk but hey it gives me a reason to take photos to share. Something other than what I have been knitting or crocheting.

You can tell spring is on the way. Look at those pretty blossoms!
I needed to get some scripts filled at the chemist so I decided that I could walk there. Wait for the scripts to be filled, that would give me time to rest my hip a bit, and then head home. Just in case you are wondering no I haven't hurt myself recently. My hip has been hurting on and off for a few years now. My anti-inflammatory that I take for my carpel tunnel seems to have helped my hip tremendously. Its only when I do a lot of walking that it flares up a little but resting it for a few minutes makes a huge difference.

Those houses in the distance are a recent thing. There were only a small handful when we first moved into town.
Yes another hill for me to climb up. Thank goodness I turn at the corner here and miss the need to climb back up that hill!! I walked up the Coles hill (I think I mentioned that last time I talked about going for a walk. You can see the photo of the hill in this post here). I don't know why I thought I would walk home that way. It is steep! Oh that's right it takes off an extra 5 minutes walking home that way. I do end up paying for it by being out of breath and it makes my legs find muscles that I had forgotten about.

An unusual plant.
I came across this unusual plant. It looks like it's growing really well. I have no idea what it's called. You don't happen to have any ideas do you? The plant looks kind of harsh but it isn't really.

Here's a close-up of the same plant. It looks like its getting ready to flower.
I met some lovely people during my walk too. I don't know if its the fact we were all walking or its because we live in the country but they were very friendly. Maybe it was a bit of both.

I know that walking is good for me but I sure do get pooped afterwards. ALL of my healthcare workers want me to do at least 30 minutes exercise a day (I don't do that every day) but at least I am doing some :) I have lost about 5 kilos (around 10 lb) since being diagnosed with diabetes. I'm not sure if I will continue to lose weight. In fact I would be happy to maintain the weight I have and not gain any extra. I even tested my BGL after my walk today and its lower than it normally would be 2 hours after breakfast. So that's a really good thing right?

I'm going to put my feet up and crochet for a bit. I think I have earned that today.

An Afternoon Stroll

It was such a lovely day today that I dragged the boys out for a walk with me to the supermarket. I only wanted a couple of things and taking the boys with me meant I didn't have to carry it by myself. I knew there was a reason to have kids other than to do the dishes =P

One of the Churches in town

The picture below of the hill by the supermarket doesn't do it justice. It really is much steeper than it looks. I have to admit that today's walk felt better than last weekends one on the same hill. Although I didn't walk up it this time around. At least I managed to burn off some of that glucose. I'm crossing my fingers that any BGL's I do later will be better than yesterdays. There were a tad on the higher side but still within the normal range, thank goodness.

The Coles Hill (well its the hill by Coles supermarket)

Not that I timed myself but I am pretty sure that I did more than the 30 minutes exercise that Karen (my Diabetes Educator) & Kerry (my dietitian) recommended and I feel pretty good about that!
