Dragon Quilt

Guess what I won!! A Dragon Quilt! I entered a raffle for Angus's soccer club. I bought the ticket months ago when Angus played his first game. I had totally forgotten about it actually. I got a phone call the other week from the lady in charge of fund-raising to say that I had won the quilt. I've never won a raffle before and to be honest it never even entered my mind that I would win this one. But I did. I was thinking that it would look good as a wall hanging.

School Excursion & Other Stuff

Angus and I went on an excursion this morning. We went to the cinemas to see "Bee Movie" it was really good for a kids movie. There were a few things that were went over the top of the kids heads but that is normal for some movies I guess. When I asked Angus what was his favourite part he said all of it.

Brodie had the day off school yesterday because the teachers had a pupil free day to write their reports. Gee whiz we never had a day of school when I was working in Adelaide and I know that I never had the day off school when I was in High School. The teachers had to do the reports in their own time. I think they have it too easy here!!
Anyway while Brodie is home he has to do some, lets just say, medical tests for the paediatrician. Brodie would freak if I had to put what the tests were on my blog so I wont say what they are. He had to stay home today as well so that we can complete the tests. He had to have a blood test this morning though. He squeezed the dickens out of my hand. He has such a phobia about needles but he did very well.Thankfully the nurse got the vein first time round. I don't think he would've been able to cope if she didn't.

It's applique tonight. So far so good as for me wanting to to. It's also Angus's Young Achievers night, the last one for the year. I don't think he would be too happy if he couldn't go but he still has to make sure his room is tidy or he will be staying home!! Also on tonight is choir practise for Relief Society. It's a special enrichment activity coming up on Saturday and they want some of the sisters to join the choir and to practise a few Christmas carols for Saturday. I said I would join in because I'll be at the chapel any way tonight (provided the boys room is cleaned up!).
Brodie's activity isn't on tonight because they are playing basketball this coming weekend and he will be doing that instead. So perhaps after choir and young achievers I'll make it to applique for a little while.

Oh and with the enrichment activity, we are meant to be showing off our quilts that we have made this year. I have Diva's one, my Christmas one and if I remember my cat table runner as it was the first thing I made.

Photos Of The Quilt

Here's the photos I took the other day. Angus is very impressed with his new quilt cover even though it isn't finished yet. I hope to get the material for the backing some time this week, when I finally get my act together and go back to the shops. He wasn't too sure about the dark blue squares to start with. When I picked the material up he kind of screwed his nose up at it but I reminded him that he needed to have a more grown up quilt. He's been using his Pooh Bear one for years now and I told him he was getting too old for it. Angus then realised that it had all sorts of American stuff on it and it reminded him of Auntie Diva so he decided he liked it after all. What a champ lol~!!

Yay it's Tuesday

Woohoo it's Tuesday!! I was told on Sunday at Church that applique is definitely on tonight. I'm so glad it is as I am wanting to get stuck into my Noah's Ark piece. It's been two weeks since I have done anything to it. I'll organise my sewing container soon to make sure I have all the bits and pieces that I need for tonight.

I've been busy doing other projects while waiting for applique to be back on. I did some more quilting to my Christmas piece. I sewed around the Santa, the reindeer and the houses just to see what it would look like. It turned out okay .. well at least I think it did.

Last week there was a sale at Gippstitch and also at Margaret's Wool & Fabric. Something to do with the Melbourne Cup and the Spring Racing Carnival. Anyway I went to both stores and bought a few things from each. I go a few bargains too .. I just wish I had more money to spend *smile*

Angus is so happy as I am making a new quilt cover for his doona. I've run out of fabric for it though and I have only completed the front. I've taken some pictures but I haven't transferred them from the camera to the computer yet. I'll do that shortly. I told Angus that the cover is part of his birthday present. I cannot believe it that he will be turning 11 at the end of the month. Where has the time gone?? I also got a panel that has a motorbike on it. Angus truly has the bug for bikes now; ever since Mark took him for a ride on on the RD.

I suppose I had better organise those photos to show off Angus's quilt.

A UFO and a Completed Piece

Well I finally finished my Christmas Project (Up on a Roof Top) last weekend and I took it to applique on Tuesday night to show it off I took Diva's quilt too as some of the others had not seen it finished before.
I'm as pleased as punch with it for my first completed quilted project. I was told by one of the girls that I should quilt some more on it. I might just do that but not yet. I've got a few other things I want to get started on first.

The other photo is of my Noah's Ark wall hanging. I'm only about two thirds of the way through it. It's kind of hard not having the pattern at home so that I can work on it here. I've only got Tuesday nights to do this one. At least last week I was able to trace all the main pieces (I forgot some though) and was able to put them onto the fabric the other day. It was good to be able to at least get that much done. I wasn't able to put them on the backgrounds though. I didn't trust myself to place them in the right spots without looking at the pattern. I do like how this has turned out so far though and that little monkey is such a cutie!! Let's hope that I am able to get quite a bit more done this coming week. I want to get this finished long before the display of enrichment activities projects at Church. I'm not sure when that will be, most likely next month.

Fast Sunday

It was Fast & Testimony meeting at Church today, where the members can share their feelings and their love of the Gospel if they feel inspired to do so. I of course have not yet felt the need to share (yet). I know that one day I will feel inspired to just not yet. Anyway one of the Brothers, well most of his family actually, gave his testimony. As he was speaking I got goose bumps ALL over! It was amazing.

I also took my quilt that I made for Diva to show a couple of the sisters, especially since I don't get to see some of them on Tuesday nights when I go and I wanted to specifically show Sister Gwen, who I now pick up on Tuesdays. I have to admit that ALL of the sisters I showed it to were impressed with it. They seemed a little surprised that I am sending it over to Diva. They all hoped that I would make something just as good for myself. I know I will when I make the Noah's Ark quilt.

My Next Project

I got back from Appliqué about half hour ago and was talking about what project I would like to do next. I've finally decided that I would love to do the Noah's Ark Quilt that everyone else has been doing. It's looks great and I'm sure that I can get it finished in no time especially if I can get a copy of the pattern in the bargain as I would need to do stuff at home.

I've decided that I'm going to do it all in blues and purples. You know since they're my favourite colours and all. I'm sure it will look fantastic when it's done! I went to the site where the patterns come from just to copy the picture of the piece I want to do. It's beautiful.

It's Done!!

Well I've just about finished Diva's Quilt. I only need to put the backing on and it's done! I cannot believe it! I am so in love with it though that I almost don't want to give it away! Almost lol. Not bad for about 2 months work but I am biased. I just love the colour I chose for the border. The burnt orange really ties in with the autumn colours and sets it off nicely. Diva is going to LOVE it!!

I have started work on my Christmas table runners for now and I bought some more pretty star buttons to go on top of the Christmas trees. I had for gotten that I needed more red buttons for the cherries on the puddings so I will have to go get some more this week. Once I have the Christmas projects done I can start on something for me! I'm not sure if I am going to do the Australian Noah's Ark first or not. I might ask the girls at applique if I can get a copy of the Noah's Ark pattern that they used. Even if I just get it for my collection to make at a latter date. There's plenty of time to decide as I still have 3 - 4 more Christmas runners to make yet.

Ta Da!! The Quilt ~~

It's getting there. Not much more to go apart from the sashing, the edges around the sashing, the backing and wadding plus a few little bits and pieces with the animals. I can't believe that I'm not that far from finishing. It was so worth the time and the blisters lol. Let's hope I don't get any more blisters as that really slowed me down!
