WIP - Crocheted Garter

My niece, Heidi, is getting married next year. She has asked me to crochet a blue garter for her to wear on the day. I found this pattern called Springtime Lace Garter on Ravelry. I'm not too sure that I actually like what I made. It looks rather chunky for a garter. I'm wondering if I should just buy Heidi one and send it over. This one still needs the ribbon. Perhaps once that's been woven into the garter it may make it look better. To be honest it really doesn't look like much at the moment.

I've Been Shopping Online

I just bought myself a new crochet pattern book from ebay. The reason I chose this book because one of the crochet pages that I follow on Facebook shared a wonderful photo of a crocheted fair isle item that someone had made and won a blue ribbon. They mentioned that the pattern came from this book. It's coming from the U.S. so I may be waiting for a while to get it, estimated delivery isn't until at least Dec 24th but that's okay. I'm not in a rush.

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • Luke, the parcel postie. He's brought a few items this week ☺
  • cooler weather because we all know how I dislike the heat
  • rain
  • crochet, as always ☺
  • music because it can always lift your mood
What are you thankful for this week?

Finished Item - Crocheted Holiday Lights

I finished up the light ornaments I had been making and decided to use them as a garland to hang on the wall. I'm not too sure that I like them like that. Perhaps next year they will just end up on the Christmas tree.

I'm A Seamstress, Sort Of

Brodie had bought himself a new pair of dress pants that needed the hem taken up. He kept forgetting to take his new trousers to the laundromat so that the lady there could put the hem up. The new trousers sat in his room, with the pins I had placed on them for the desired length, for around 3 - 4 weeks.

Brodz had been wearing his demin jeans to Church. Not a good look really when you're in a nice white shirt and tie with these raggedy old jeans on. I got tired of waiting for Brodie (who was probably waiting for me to drive him to the laundromat) to do something about them.

Mum had taught me years ago how to hem trousers but of course when you don't need to sew very often you forget how to do it. Thank goodmess for the internet, right? I had found a pin on pinterest showing how to hem jeans and I thought I could do the same thing for dress pants, right? So yesterday out came the sewing machine, some pins and the iron and ta-da! Trousers that FIT Brodie at the EXACT length!

The tutorial, with photos, is from Do It Yourself Divas Blog. Thank you Stephanie for sharing your tutorial. I love how easy it was to follow!

I managed to save Brodie around $15. I think he owes me some chocolate now (~_o)

Crochet Borders

My new crochet book arrived this morning. To be honest I didn't think I would receive it so quickly considering the time of year and how busy Australia Post gets.

I think any blanket that I make in future will have some amazing looking borders when they are complete. I'm wondering if I should start making another blanket soon or practise on a face washer/tea towel/hand towel...

WIP - Crochet - Holiday Lights

I started making some crocheted Christmas lights from a pattern I found over at Yarnspirtions called Holiday Lights Garland. I don't know whether to use them as decorations for our Christmas tree or to string them up together and hang them on the wall.
I'll probably make about a dozen of them and then decide.
I love how these are so quick and easy to whip up.
