RIP Bubbalou

We had a phone call from the vet about an hour ago. Someone had taken our Rory in. He had been attacked by a dog.
Mark & I went straight to the vets to see how bad things were. The poor thing had so much damage done to him. The vet was not very hopeful at all and said that it would be touch and go. That she would try to save him if she could. Rory was unable to move his back legs and his breathing was very laboured even though they had an oxygen mask on him he was still gasping for breath. The vet said it was like he had been picked up and shaken. Rather than have him suffer Mark said to put him down.
Of course I am a total wreck. My poor baby Rory. He wasn't even 11 months old yet. No more lovely (and dying) flowers and leaves will be left on the floor. No more snuggles under the covers with me. My poor Rory. He was such a cutie.

Trip Update

We went and saw our boy at the vets late this afternoon. He looked so sleepy but he managed to purr heaps for us and he gave us his special purr too. We're able to take him home tomorrow. The vet said that the slug in him might have been there a lot longer than we thought as there was no visible entry wound. So perhaps this 'bullet' was from when he lost his back leg. This time he may have been hurt by a car or something.

Well at least it is good to know that there isn't someone around shooting at animals. At least not on our town. Thank goodness. But that still doesn't make me feel good. The poor boy has had this thing in him for such a long time. It makes me wonder why the RSPCA never picked it up when they had him just over 12 months ago. I'm guessing the only ever looked at his back leg and not the rest of him.

The vet said that he should be okay but we need to make sure that the boys (and Saqarra) behave themselves with him. It will take him at least 6 weeks before he will be completely healed. He will have some medication to take but we expected that. He also said that considering where the break in his leg is he was less likely to be affected by arthritis when he gets older. Which is good as I was only talking to Mark about that yesterday.

Someone SHOT Our Cat!

We've just had a phone call from the vet. He's taken the x-rays and had a look at the damage. Trip definitely has a broken leg. Not at the knuckle where it was all limp but further up at the elbow. On the x-ray the vet saw what looked like a slug. Someone has SHOT our cat! How could they???? I am so shocked that this would happen.

Mark told the vet to do what ever needs to be done. the vet said it could possibly cost around $500 by the time they are finished. They will need to operate on him either later today or even tomorrow morning. They need to pin his leg in order for him to be able to use it. Normally they would amputate but of course they can't do that to him sine he only has the three legs as it is.

Considering what he has been through the vet said Trip was quite happy and content. That he doesn't seem to be in much pain and he has allowed them to take the x-rays and touch his leg without any real worry. That's my boys! He is just so loving and trusting!

I wish I could get my hands on the people who hurt him though. They would be ever so sorry that they hurt our baby boy!!

Trippy Came Home

Trippy came home last night hobbling about on two legs. Mark said he is one tough old cat if he can make it home on just two legs. His front right paw was kind of just dangling there.

He was let outside on Tuesday morning and Mark saw him on the roof of the shed last night just after 7:30. So he'd been gone for a day and a half. It's no wonder he didn't come home Tuesday night. The poor thing!

It broke my heart seeing his leg just hanging. We phoned up a few vet clinics last night as the one we normally go to was unavailable but I left a message on his mobile. One vet wanted $115 up front before she would even see Trip. I explained to her that we are on pensions, which is very limiting at the best of times, and that we are unable to. She said she couldn't help us unless we had the money. Sheesh you'd think they wouldn't care about that and just want to help an animal. I wont be phoning them again in a hurry.
Thankfully our vet was able to phone us back. Mark and our neighbour took Trip there around 8:30. Angus didn't want to go to bed until Mark got back. Brodie was in tears earlier as he thought that Trip might have to be put down.

I phoned the vet a short time ago to see how Trip was going. The vet had been out on an emergency and hadn't been back that long when I phoned. He was about to take x-rays and would phone us when he had the chance to check them out. So I'm waiting for the phone call.

I just hope that our baby boy is okay. I tell you one thing though. Trip you wont be going outside for a very, very long time!! If EVER!!
