R U OK? Day

Today is R U OK? Day.

It's a day aimed at getting Australians to ask someone, a friend, a colleague or family member if they are okay. It's all about suicide prevention & helping people. To listen to them and finding out if they really are okay. Click on the image below to find out more.

You don't have to wait for a national day to remind you to ask you friends, family or work mates if they are okay. I lost one of my brothers to suicide. It really is a horrible dark thing and so very, very  hard for the ones who are left behind. So please, no matter where you are in the world, ask someone you love today if they are okay.

Good idea, but I wonder how many people answer honestly. Since my daughter died 5 years ago, I hold the pain inside and rarely let others know how badly I'm hurting. I don't even tell my husband sometimes, because I know he hurts as bad as I do.

After rereading my comment, it occurs to me that if more people ask, I might be more forthcoming. Hmmm, I'll have to think about this one.

Beverly, I also wonder how many people answer honestly. It would be very nice if they were able to do so each time they are asked instead of using the standard answer of I'm good or I am fine thanks. I know I have been guilty of saying those things myself. It seems easier than telling everyone the truth.
