Why is it that kids test your patience? My two have driven me nuts with their attitudes recently. I can understand that the big fella is asserting himself and testing the boundaries now that he is in High School but the little dude is doing exactly the same .. if not worse!
I busted them this morning at the swimming pool breaking ALL of the rules. Running around the edge of the pool and running and jumping into the pool. Did they expect me not to watch them and not do anything? They even had the nerve to blame the other kids that were in the pool. Perhaps they were doing wrong as well but they are not my concern ... my boys ARE!! When I confronted them they didn't want to come home. They didn't want to get out of the pool. They just didn't wish to listen. However, when I threatened them (mostly the big fella) with a swimming ban until NEXT summer they moved a heck of a lot faster than they would've otherwise.
I'll be sitting down with them shortly and letting them know that they are now banned from swimming until at least next weekend.
It seems like that is all I seem to be doing now .. taking away their privileges. I've tried the positive reinforcement stuff but that doesn't seem to work very well either. I'm almost at my wits end with them!
