My Mechanical Baby

Mark & our neighbour started working on the car today. They're having a break right now but they will be pulling the head off so that they can put a new head gasket on. So far the water pump looks like it might need replacing, we need to get some bolts for the exhaust manifold (or something I can't remember what it was for really other than it's for the exhaust). Every now and then I go out to the car port to check on the progress and learn a little about the motor.

I don't think I am doing too bad considering ... I have come a long way from my first car, which I bought back in 1989, a European Ford Escort, and not knowing what an alternator was. I recall being told by the mechanic that it needed replacing and I remember asking if it was important or not. I laugh at that story now. How naive was I? Dad only taught me how to check the oil and the radiator. He never even taught me to change a tyre or about anything else under the bonnet! Oh well.
