New Aircon

We live in public housing. That means if we want to do major alterations we need to get permission to do certain things such as installing garden sheds, ceiling fans or air-conditioning etc.

Since am classified at the primary tenant of our home, the women usually are, I applied to housing and listed that Mark needs air-conditioning due to his having fibromyalgia (fibro).
I included a letter/form from the occupational therapist who saw Mark a while back and also one from his GP stating that Mark has fibro.

I received a letter from housing last week stating that it had been approved. I thought that it would take a reasonable length of time before they came to install the unit but to my surprise they phoned last Friday stating that they would be here on Monday (yesterday).

They workers, including the electrician, arrived around 9 am and were finished by 11 am or so.
Too bad summer is officially over now. However, that being said, we do sometimes get some hot days in March and April. We may get to use this thing yet.
I can't get over how quiet it is!

A New Sliding Door

The hole in the wall & its not an ATM

YAY!! Finally!! We have our new door up and it works like a dream! No more having to use two hands to try and open it. No more having to keep it closed with a block of wood. The cats wont know themselves. They will will sit at the back door and will probably be shocked when we open it to let them in. Trip will be grateful that I wont make him walk all the way around any more because I wouldn't go 'collect' him from the doorway.

A big gap between the brickwork and the floor inside

Saqqara rubbing her scent all over the new framework

All Finished!

Contractor Update

Would you believe that the contractor called in yesterday while we were out shopping? Stupid or what? Honestly considering the distance they have to drive to get to our home you would think that they would phone us up first. They didn't! We only knew that they rocked up because they left a slip of paper on the front door.

Mark phoned them up to let them know that we got the message & stated that they weren't meant to be here until Tuesday to which the girl on the phone said that they have nothing in the books about that. I am so sick of the darned lies. I just want the stupid door fixed so that we can use it again. How hard is it for them to come when we are home or to phone so that we will make sure someone will be home?

Housing Maintenance & Contractors

Bah Humbug! I am so peeved with the Glazier contracted by State Housing. We have been waiting for years for our back sliding door to be fixed. We haven't even been able to lock it for MONTHS! The last time someone came to fix our door so that we could secure it was on Black Saturday (Feb 7th), when get this a PLUMBER came to place two pieces of wood down so that the door could not be opened. Which of course it could still be opened if forced. It has now been four months. We were told back then that someone would be out in two weeks to fix things properly. Well NO one came!!

Yesterday after many more phone calls to maintenance, the glazier finally rocked up to 'fix' the door frame. Gee Whiz. Why was it no surprise that the door frame and door that they brought with them didn't fit? I'll tell you why. They never measured the darned thing in the first place so they never had the correct measurements to start with. The two blokes that turned up were surprised that and wondered how they got the measurements that they did. Who knows, who cares? It doesn't FIT so it is NO good to me. They left without so much as a clue to their return! AND to top if off they brought black sticky icky silicon onto the carpet and ground it in with their bloody boots. Silicon does NOT come out! And they didn't even apologise for their blunder! I bet you can see why I feel so peeved at the moment!!

Mark phoned housing to let them know what went on and how the door was still NOT repaired. The Line Manager for the maintenance call centre phoned back to say that the contractors should be back on Tuesday NEXT week to 'finish' the job they were meant to have done yesterday. I wont hold my breath because they may not even turn up! I hope they get their act into gear!
