My Brother

My brother, Mark, died back in January of 2002. In fact it was 19 years ago today. Sadly he took his own life. He felt that there was no hope and no way out of the pit he was in. He gassed himself in his car at his workplace (a market garden in Virginia, SA).

I know my brother was no angel. There were times I was terrified of his behaviour but he was still my brother. He deserved better than he got. He deserved happiness and people that were understanding of his situation. If I had known how badly he was hurting I would've done something to help.

Depression is a horrible thing. An isolating thing. Something that you don't need to go through alone. There are so many places you can seek help

Even though we had our moments I still miss Mark. Brodie misses his Buddy (their name for one another) and all the mischief they got up to. Hopefully he is now resting in peace.

It's Our Anniversary Today

Today Mark and I celebrate our third wedding anniversary.
We don't have any plans for today. Not yet anyway.
I think we are going out for dinner or lunch on the weekend.

It's hard to believe it's been three years since our wedding day. It feels longer :P well, maybe that's because we have been together for almost 10 years.
I'm thinking I should try my dress on again. I have lost more weight since we got married.
It might look even better on me than it did that day (~_o)

Happy Anniversary hon. I love you!! ♥♥♥

Happy Anniversary

Mark bought me some vanilla scented LED candles for our anniversary.
He gave them to me a few days early but I don't mind.

I think it's nice to have some candles that will never run out.

Happy Anniversary hon.
I can't believe it's been two years since we finally got hitched.
♥♥♥ I love you ♥♥♥

7 Year Itch? Not Likely...

On Wednesday it was the 7th anniversary of when Mark and I first started dating. I suggested that we should go out and celebrate. Any excuse to go out for a feed right?? Also any excuse to get out of cooking! Plus I thought it was a good idea to have two anniversaries (~_o)

We didn't end up going out on Wednesday like we initially planned. Mark wasn't feeling up to it so we went out for lunch yesterday at one of the local Chinese restaurants here in town.
We chose the two person banquet.

Prawn toast and spring rolls with a sweet chilli dipping sauce

Mongolian beef - the sauce was divine!

Fried rice

Prawns with vegetables
It was very filling. I didn't even want to eat dinner last night. Although I think it may have had something to do with the temperature still being around the 38C (100F) at 8 pm. Yuck! Far too hot to eat.

That old saying about the 7 year itch thing I guess you can say that it doesn't really apply to us considering we only just got married last month.
Here's to many more happy years together!

Sticking To It

Okay yesterday I mentioned how I wanted to try and do the right thing and blog daily. Well here goes .. let's see how long I can stick with this idea.

Today is the 7th anniversary of my Mums death. It no longer hurts as much to think about her as it used to. I can talk quite freely with the boys about her without getting choked up. I still miss her heaps. I mean who wouldn't miss your Mum if she was no longer around.

I just got interrupted by a phone call. Not a bad thing though. It was Mark's brother. He lives in Western Australia. Mark's not home at the moment so I said I would get him to phone back. Mark's at the caravan park (the one we used to live at).

Where was I .. oh yeah I was talking about Mum. You know how people say it gets easier as time goes by. I know it's an old cliché but its true. It really does get easier. I still find it a little hard to believe that its been seven years though. This also makes me think that the boys other Nanna passed away ten years ago earlier this week. Boy has time flown. This also means that their Granddad passed away 9 years ago this December 8th. Where has the time gone.

Brodie phoned Dad earlier this evening just to check up on him and see how he's going. I worry about him sometimes. He seems to forget that he's told me the same thing a couple of times now. I guess that happens as you get older. He's nearly 80 after all. Anyway we had a good chat and a talk about Mum. He still misses her a lot. Dad said my sister, Vicki, popped in to see him today which was nice. He's a little miffed with her though; she still wont go to the cemetery with him yet she will go with our half-brother.

Mark went out with our neighbour this morning to the MRA (Motorcycle Riders Association of Australia) headquarters. They went to help clean it out as they were no longer using the building. He came home a few hours ago with quite a few 'extras'. We even managed to get some new chairs for our kitchen table. The chairs we had were falling apart after years of punishment from the boys. The new ones look quite good actually after they had a clean, although it is going to take a little getting used to seeing them at the table. You could say it was a blessing that Mark went to help them out. Mark got a few knick knacks too like badges, a t-shirt and a chart (which I think should've gone to the bin!) but he said its a good thing. Hmm .. I'm still thinking on that one lol.

I suppose I had better get off this thing. I need to prepare my lesson for Nursery tomorrow. Not that I want to go. In fact, if I am really honest, I am not interested in being a teacher in Nursery any more. I'm not sure exactly why I feel this way but I do. Perhaps I need to talk with the Bishop about this. I have a feeling that I am going to 'lose' my calling at any rate. Mainly because I live with Mark and we aren't married. We've been good though and are doing the best we can.
As I said I'd better get off this thing and plan my lesson for tomorrow .. at least the activity for it.

Happy Anniversary

I just clicked to something ... ... ... ... Today is the 12th anniversary of my nephew Kym being taken away from me. I had looked after him on and off since he was a baby and he came to live with me when he was almost 5. My brother had left him in my care because he didn't want the responsibility of him anymore. I didn't mind because I had looked after Kim since he was in nappies. People even thought he was my son when we went out anywhere. The big fella was only a baby when we last saw Kym but he used to get so excited when Kym would come home from school because they would always play together.

I still remember the day he was taken from me very clearly. I had written a letter to his mother asking her if she wanted to see Kym and possibly take him back into her care but she hadn't received the letter because she was already in Adelaide planning on taking Kym.
In fact she took him from in front of my house one night right before dinner time. I'd asked Kym to take Alex (a neighbours little boy who lived two houses away) a toy he had left out the front of ou place. I thought that Kym would be back really quickly but he didn't come home. I was so worried I went out the front calling his name. How could a child just disappear from the street when he was only going two doors away to take back a toy?? In fact no one had seen him. He was just gone. I even phoned the police and they came. Not that I knew at the time but his mother had contacted them (the police) and informed them about her intentions about taking Kym. She had snatched him off the street right in from of Alex's place.
The police came and informed me that his mother had Kym. My Mum was with me and she was so upset, just as upset as I was and it was the one and only time I ever swore in front of my Mum. Mum never said boo when I called Kym's mother a f*cking b*tch!
Apparently she was sitting in a car near Alex's place, two doors down from me, with Kym in the car. She had covered his mouth so that I would hear him calling for me. I had seen the car but I didn't think or should I say I never thought that he would've been inside that car.

Shortly after this happened within a day Kym's mother contacted me and asked if we could talk. Mum said I was mad for agreeing to talk with her. In fact Mum was mad at me for packing some of Kyms belongings to give to him. I can just hear Mum now saying "She calls herself a Christian woman and she does this to you?"
I mean what could I say to Mum other than Mum this is Kyms stuff and I bought it for him. Just because his mother has done this doesn't mean I should punish Kym and prevent him from having the things that I gave him.

I truly believed and still believe that it was right thing to do & to give Kym the things that were his. Even the brand new things that I had only just gotten off lay-by for him a few days before all of this happened. I thought that he has the right to have things that his Auntie & Uncle had bought for him.
It still breaks my heart that these events happened as they did. That if only his mother had waited for a few days before deciding to come all the way from New South Wales to grab him. She would've had Kym with her. There would've been no anger or scene created. Things would've gone more smoothly.

Over the years I have thought about what kind of young man Kym would have turned out to be .. he is a young man now after all. He will be 20 this year. I often wonder if he will come looking for his Auntie who had looked after him when he was little. Perhaps one day he may even come looking for me.. ..
