Thankful Thursday

 photo ThankfulThursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • being able to go to the temple twice this past week
  • spending time with some amazing sisters from Church
  • having lunch out with some of the sisters
  • sunshine - even though it has been cold it doesn't seem quite as bad when the sun is shining
  • crochet, of course (~_o)
  • working together as a family

What are you thankful for this week?

Natural Cleaners

I like the idea of using less chemicals when cleaning. My SIL shared this on FB and I had to snag it.

I actually use vinegar and water, premixed in a spray bottle, to clean my bathroom mirror & in the shower. It's also a great disinfectant. Plus it smells so much nicer than some of the other stuff that is out there.

WIP - Crochet - Temperature Blanket - Week 25

As you can see there is still A LOT of light purple but we did have some really cold days. Thank goodness for heaters is all I can say. The weather bureau called it an arctic blast. I have to agree with them brrrr it was very cold!

Issy enjoyed snuggling under the blanket while I crocheted.

It was so cold that we had hail and sleet yesterday afternoon. Sadly, there was no snow for us. We're not up high enough for that. The temperature did drop to 1.7 °C (35.06°F) when the cold front & hail arrived.

Brodie and I were out when in that blast and hail. It made the road very, slippery and poor Brodz slipped getting out of the car when we got to the supermarket.

Stupid Scalp Psoriasis

 photo AnybodyThere_DFly_Hello-vi11211.gif

I've been having problems with my scalp for a while now (o_O) my stupid ‪psoriasis has been playing up. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with stress or just the fact that it is now winter or maybe it's both.

So far changing my shampoo to a sulfate free one (see photo below) has done nothing to help, at least not yet but I was hoping to see a difference after using it for the past 9 days. Although my hair does look rather shiny (but it did look shiny with my last shampoo).

I now have a script for diprosone lotion, which used to be on the PBS but sadly isn't any more. I am a bit ticked off at the price I had to pay for this medication so it had better work. I recall using it many years ago but I can't remember whether it worked or not.

Is it too much to ask for nice skin? I've lived with this for nearly all of my life. For once I would like something to be 'normal'.

Thankful Thursday

 photo ThankfulThursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • being able to go to Relief Society and spend time with the sisters. I love being in Primary but it truly is nice to be able to be with adults even on rare occasions like this
  • one of my Home Teachers, Rick, who was able to come and visit us this week. He was flying solo this time because Todd was unwell
  • my crochet - I still have my crochet mojo and that's a very good thing
  • being able to purchase yarn online. It means I don't have to travel 40+ kms (25+ miles) to the yarn stores to get some goodies AND it gets delivered to my door! Always a bonus ☺☺
  • being able to go out for lunch with Mark without the boys. This sort of thing doesn't happen very often but when it does it's very special
What are you thankful for this week?

WIP - Crochet - Temperature Blanket - Week 24

Yay I was finally able to crochet a row other than light purple! Only one row mind you but hey it broke up ALL of that solid purple. I just wish there were a few more rows of other colours thrown in to the mix.

I was 0.4C off doing a blue row today. Oh well. Maybe next week.

WIP - Crochet - c2c Blanket Squares

I've decided I want to make a few blankets. I have way too much yarn decided that I want to use up some of my yarn in a stash busting effort. What better way to do that than make up some squares that I can use for baby blankets. I haven't made any blankets with cute little appliques for a while so I started whipping up some background squares.

Teri from Knot Your Nana's Crochet is working on a new blanket with a sea theme. I'll be purchasing the patterns once she has completed this series. I LOVE her stuff! She has several appliques completed already, around nine of them, but I shall wait until all 12 are done before I purchase them.

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • cats that want to snuggle when the weather is cold
  • cold mornings that turn in to beautiful sunny afternoons. We had -2.0°C (28°F) the other morning.
  • no rain, it means I can go for walks
  • visiting teachers who care ♥
  • a haircut that I cam (hopefully) manage to make look as good as the hairdresser does

What are you thankful for this week?

Finished Item - Crochet - Corner to Corner - Doctor Who Logo

Ta Da! All done!
There are two things that I dislike about making corner to corner graphs. The first thing is the yarn gets tangled a lot. The second thing is I need to sew in ALL the ends. However, when I make then I somehow don't seem to manage getting the ends on one side of the work I get it on both (o_0)
Oh well it's all done now.

The pattern can be found at Two Hearts Crochet.

Now all I need to do is work out what I am making next.

WIP - Crochet - Temperature Blanket - Week 23

Far out, Brussel sprout! I know I love purple but gosh I so want to crochet another colour. It's been nothing but this colour for over two weeks! Please let the temperature go over 16°C or stay around 11°C or even less. I WANT another colour! Who would have thought I would ever get annoyed with crocheting ONE colour? I certainly never did. Anyway, here's what the blanket looks like now.

WIP - Crochet - Corner to Corner - Doctor Who Logo

I got side tracked making a couple of baby cocoons and a midwife blanket. I am now back to making more of the Doctor Who c2c squares.

This one is the modern Doctor Who logo. The DW that looks like a TARDIS.

I decided, that with all the craziness and the tangles yarn from the previous Whovian square that I would use these yarn holders that I have had for years but rarely use.

As you can see things still get twisted together but it did make it a little easier.

The pattern, graph really, can be found HERE on the Two Hearts Crochet website.

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:

  • Mark receiving his new dentures. He looks amazing!
  • Angus started his new arborist course AND he is loving it so far! WTG Kiddo!
  • Missy Issy and how she is keeping my lap warm at night. Now to try and get her to stop sleeping on top of the cane arch in the lounge room and get her onto the bed instead.
  • sunny days
  • having fun with friends from Church at a make over party. I didn't think I would enjoy myself as much as I did. Make up isn't really my thing but I really enjoyed it. I also liked the fact that I could hide the redness on my face from my psoriasis

What are you thankful for this week?

I Love My Fluffy Cat

Missy Issy loves to lay in all sorts of places.
She is certainly value for money as far as entertainment is concerned.

My lap warmer! A very welcoming thing on these chilly nights.

I do believe Issy is smiling in this one. She is surrounded by my temperature blanket as I was crocheting. I had to place the blanket in such a way that she wouldn't be disturbed.

On the exercise ball. Issy was waiting for me to sit down so she could lay on my lap.

She found Angus's lap!

My Spotlight Adventure

Last week I managed to go to Spotlight. This is my new addition to my yarn stash.
I needed the purple for my temperature blanket, especially since I have completed so many rows with this colour. I didn't want to run out. I am hoping that four will be plenty due to the fact that I am decreasing the rows each day.

This lot was all 30% off. The bags alone normally cost $10, which in itself is a bargain, but to get them for $6.99 was a BONUS! Lots of crochet and knitting hours in this collection.

WIP - Crochet - Temperature Blanket - Week 22

Lots and lots of purple this week! I love purple, I really love purple, but wow there are way too many rows of this colour happening right now. I wish the temperature would either creep up a couple of degrees or maybe even drop a further degree or two just to add a different colour to break all the purple up!

I do believe that this blanket may be too big for my bed.

And it looks like today will be another purple day! I think I might need to make an adjustment to my temperature scale.

Missy Issy has decided she really likes this blanket.
Maybe this means she will lay on the bed more often once it's completed.

We Met Brodies Neurosurgeon

On Monday Brodie and I drove to the Austin Hospital. We got to meet the neuro team that will be working with Brodz. I was secretly hoping that the neurosurgeon would look like Derek Shepherd from Greys Anatomy but nope he didn't. He was however a very nice man to talk with. His colleague Dr. Miller spent more time with us going over the surgery in detail and the possible outcomes both good and bad.

We have a tentative date for the surgery, August 4th. It's tentative because there are a few things that need to be checked out first like seeing the Brodie is healthy enough for the surgery to start with. The doctors stated that if an emergency occurs he will be bumped to another day, which I fully expected to hear. That's a normal thing to be told that. Brodz will also need to have pre-admission tests done before then. He will need another MRI, a visual perception test, blood tests of course and an ultrasound of his heart. They need a baseline for comparison after surgery.

The operation itself should take approximately 4 - 5 hours to complete. Brodie is expected to feel pretty ordinary afterwards and have a headache. That was a given in my book. It's expected that he will spend at least 5 days in hospital afterwards. Brodie isn't allowed to be completely on his own for 6 - 8 weeks after the surgery. He will need someone at home they just don't need to be in the same room as he is.

Now we just wait for the hospital to contact us with times and dates for the pre-admission stuff.

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • travelling safely to and from the Austin Hospital for Brodies neurosurgeon appointment
  • getting a tentative date for Brodies surgery, Thursday August 4th, (I'm not too sure that I am thankful for it but Brodie is)
  • going to the Denture Clinic with Mark. His new plates look amazing! It may take me a while to get used to him having front teeth. We pick the plates up tomorrow!
  • my crochet - I can't complain when I have my cro-mojo working!
  • Angus began a new job yesterday. He sets up promotional stuff at a local supermarket.
  • Angus was accepted in to an arborist (tree lopping) course which begins next week.

What are you thankful for this week?
