Hosted by Java at Never Growing Old

Questions:

1. Did you get any Valentine's Gifts?
2. What is your favorite topping on something toasted?
3. Do you pick out your outfit the night before?
4. What food item do you absolutely despise?
5. Righty or lefty?
---------------------------------------------------------------

My Answers!

1. Did you get any Valentine's Gifts?
No, we don't do Valentine's day in our house. Mainly because its my birthday two days before hand. Plus I think Valentine's Day should be every day not just one day of the year.

2. What is your favorite topping on something toasted?
This is a no brainer for an Aussie [well for me at least]. Its good old Vegemite! I'm one of those strange people that even eat it straight from the jar! Yum!

3. Do you pick out your outfit the night before?
No. I usually choose what I am going to wear right before I put it on. Sometimes I might choose something earlier but not very often.
4. What food item do you absolutely despise?
Tripe! Mum used to cook it and serve it up with this white sauce. It turned my stomach (pardon the pun) but it looked horrible and smelt horrible too! I also really dislike black pudding too! Yuck!

5. Righty or lefty?
I'm right handed although there are a couple of things that I can do left handed but not much. I wish I was ambidextrous!

I keep reading about Vegemite? What is it? Reminds me of something Lucielle Ball did a show about... Also.. I almost put the "Tripe" like you.. that comes to a very close second to my despise of brussel sprouts..

Hope you had a nice birthday.

Leslie, Vegemite is a traditional Australian spread usually used on toast or in sandwiches. Its made from yeast. It looks really nasty but it tastes great.
I know a lot of people might disagree with me but I was raised on the stuff so I am kind of biased. Some people say it is very similar to promite or marmite.

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day either; Hmmmm...I hear such bad things about Vegemite!!...Oh well! Melted cheese or peanut butter and jelly would be on my toast!...And when I was a kid my mom used to season, flour and fry tripe regularly. It was a little chewy, but us kids loved it! I think you can love anything when it's been fried! :-))

Poetess, frying things does make them taste better but I am not too sure about the trip though =P
I think a lot of Americans dislike Vegemite because they tend to spread it too thick on the toast or try and eat it from the jar. You can't do that when your trying it for the first time. I believe its an acquired taste if you aren't raised on the stuff.
I like peanut butter & jelly too. Yum!

I never had Vegemite or tripe. I don't think I'd like either one.

Happy Monday!

So what DOES it taste like??

Deni said...

Not gonna lie, the picture of the tripe - yah, makes me nauseous!

Hi allstarme, which one the trip or the Vegemite? Vegemite is a little on the salty side but I think it has a nice savoury taste. The tripe? well it seemed rubbery to me & I don't remember exactly how it tasted. I just remember not liking it.

Deni, I am glad I chose the right picture then because that is exactly how it makes me feel too =P yuck!!

What does Vegemite taste like? I think I saw it at World Market the last time I was there.
I may be one of the few that actually like tripe..in a big bowl of yummy Menudo!

You Win!!! Tripe is DIS-GUS-TING!!! It goes right on the list of "What in the world made you think to put that in your mouth" list along with mountain oysters and tongue!!

Jo-anne Blossy said...

Shawn you actually like tripe? You can have my share! lol
Gosh Vegemite tastes like ummm Vegemite. Its similar to marmite & promite. Its savoury and a little on the salty side. A lot of Aussies use it on their toast but its nice mixed into soups & stews too.

Kiersten @ Oh My Veggies said...

They sell Vegemite at a supermarket where we live (I'm guessing because we're a university town--maybe Aussie ex-pats demand their Vegemite!?). Maybe I should pick some up for my toast? :)

Jo-anne Blossy said...

Ohkeeka, I am sure that any Aussie ex-pat still gets craving for Vegemite. If you do try it on toast please use it sparingly and use lots of butter (or marg) it makes it taste nicer. If you put it on thick you will definitely hate it.

Vegemite is like Marmite isn't it? BLEUGH!!! And even the word 'Tripe' makes me feel nauseous...

Jo-anne Blossy said...

Barbara its very similar but I would have to say that Vegemite tastes a lot better.

Jo-anne Blossy said...

lol thanks Donna. I know what you mean I guess it was our ancestors way of making sure nothing went to waste .. but still yuck!!
