Goodies for Box Of Love

Here's the goodies I sent away to Box of Love that mentioned in a post the other day.
Excuse the mess on the table. I didn't think to move it out of the way when I took the photo.

I've included some slippers, bed socks, fingerless gloves and the toys that you can see.
I have no idea where these will end up because they are making boxes for the flood affected areas in Australia, & for the earthquake affected areas in Christchurch and Japan.

I was thinking about adding some girls leg warmers that I made but I couldn't fit them into the pre-paid satchel. I'll hang on to them for another time or give them to the BIL's girlfriends daughter. Although they may be a bit big for her yet.

All I need now is some inspiration to begin my next project. I have no idea what to make.
Do you have any suggestions?

Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews

Angus and I had interviews at his school this morning. The poor kid was so nervous about what the teachers were going to say about him. I told him not to worry. That the the teachers would ALL say he is a smart kid and that he is just a little bit lazy when it comes to work.

Teacher after teacher said that Angus is a good kid. A smart kid. That he was polite & that they have no behavioural problems with him whatsoever! That he wasn't afraid to ask for help. Some of them said that he needed to organise his time in class a bit better and focus on the work. That he should try harder to submit his work on time.

One thing that was pointed out, that we knew about anyway, is that Angus lacks confidence in his abilities. He is afraid to take risks. He seems terrified of getting things wrong & is often worried about his work not being as good as the other kids. Looks like we are going to have to work on that a bit more. I'm not sure how to tackle that yet but we will work on it.

And there was Angus thinking the teachers would say bad things about him. I knew he was a good kid at school. I have every confidence in him doing the right thing & making good choices. Keep up the good work kiddo & we can help you to focus on the areas you need a boost with! You rock!!

Thankful Thursday

<span class=

I haven't done a thankful Thursday post for a couple of weeks. Partially due to me being forgetful & not remembering until late on Fridays. It felt wrong to post on it on a Friday so I left it. But Yay I remembered for this week :D

Here's what I am thankful for:
  • getting my front tooth fixed
  • being able to smile again without worrying about people possibly staring at my broken tooth
  • the beautiful Autumn weather we are having right now. Those fresh starts to the day have warmed up to lovely mild afternoons
  • all the beautiful 'Traci Trees' that are around at the moment [my bestie Traci loves Autumn its her favourite season of all so I named the deciduous trees after her]
  • Brodie is going away for a respite weekend in a couple of days. With the school holidays starting tomorrow it will be truly welcomed
  • being able to crochet & knit things for other people because by doing this I know I can make a difference. I'm sending off some goodies (some toys, gloves & slippers/socks) to Box Of Love. You can find out about them here.
What are you thankful for this week?

Crochet Video - flowers

I'm always looking for nice patterns to learn with crochet. And what better way to learn than to watch someone who was kind enough to make a video for you to follow.

If you would just like the pattern you can find it here at Art of Crochet by Teresa

I Can Smile Again

Last Tuesday I broke a tooth. My front tooth. At least I thought it was broken but I did have a filling there. I was hoping that it was just the filling that came out when I bit into something. It was hard to tell because the filling was white.

Anyway I had to wait until today to get in to see the dentist. This dentist wasn't my first choice though. I phoned the Public Dental System first, you can read about them here if you would like to. I am eligible for this scheme because I am on a Carer's Allowance. They weren't able to help me out because I wasn't in pain when I called. Figure that one out. If I told them that I couldn't eat or talk properly or that I was in agony they could see me immediately, the next day or even refer me to a dentist that they have on their list of approved private dentists.

Well, I wasn't going to fib about it. I told them I wasn't in pain. The girl on the end of the phone said, "Okay you are on our list. See you in about 7 months."
Umm HELLO I have a broken front tooth? In 7 months it could break and become worse!! She said "If it gets worse phone us up and we will see what we can do."

So I phone the private dentist in town. The one I went to today. I was a bit surprised that I had to wait a whole week to get in but I guess being the only dentist in town they must get pretty busy. They were great. Very friendly and fast, well once you got there. Waiting a week was a killer. I was worried I would do more damage to my tooth before I got it fixed. In fact as I brushed my teeth this morning I broke a bit more off :(

Within half an hour of arriving at the dental surgery I was out and on my way home. No injections required (good 'cos I truly dislike them a lot). Even though I have no private health insurance it was worth the $160 I paid to get my tooth fixed. I can now smile with confidence again. I know that may sound a little vain but I love my smile & how it makes my eyes sparkle.

I do recommend that if you can afford it get the private health insurance. It is worth it. Medicare and pension cards only cover so much.

Answers:

1. If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Oh gosh what a tough question! I like Java's answer of bread. Just as long as I could have things like potato bread, corn bread, banana bread, 5 seeds etc.

2. Do you write your blog posts in advance or the day you post them?
I usually do them on the day but there has been a handful of posts that I have prepared a day or so before I have posted them.

3. Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
Yes I have. As a patient and as a passenger accompanying Brodie to the hospital.

4. What is your favourite candle scent?
I don't think I have just one fragrance that I like. Vanilla is nice. So are the fruity candles and the floral. I can't choose only one.

5. Coffee or tea?
Tea. I can't stand the taste of coffee. I quite like herbal tea but I don't drink it very often.
