An Old School Photo

I was sorting through some of my photos that I have on the computer when I cam across some old school photos & I thought I would share one. Just so you know I was -14 years old in this photo. I am only 29 after all :-P (please don't burst my bubble, let me believe I am 29 at least for a few more years)

Can you guess which one is me?I'll give you a clue I am wearing socks.

Oh my gosh will you look at that socks with sandals. What were our parents thinking when they let us dress like that?? What fashionistas we were!! Thank goodness I never made my boys wear socks with sandals. Isn't it a good thing that kids wear uniforms these days. Although I have to admit we did look neat & tidy in our class photo. Having kids dress the same saves them from being teased for wearing the wrong clothes. I suffered a bit in high school for that but that's another story.

I remember this particular class. My teacher was Miss Guppy (yep like the fish). She was one of the BEST teachers EVER! I remember all the kids loved her and we all cried when we were told she was leaving. My best friend, Mish, was in another class. Although at the time I'm not sure we were best friends, not yet anyway. I did have a really good friend in this class though. Her name was Julie. I used to visit her all the time. My Mum & Julie's Mum were friends. I think they knew each other from work.

Wouldn't it be nice to be carefree and not have a worry in the world like when we were kids? That being said I did have worries back then. I was diagnosed with psoriasis when I was 7.  I don't remember this myself but my sister Julie told me that I came home from school crying. Apparently the school didn't want me there because of my psoriasis. I was a kid who adored going to school. I absolutely loved being there. I can just imagine how heartbroken I was. Julie told me that Dad marched right up to the school and told them off. He explained that it was not contagious. I wish I remembered that he did that. I would've been so proud of my Dad for being my hero!

So have you worked out which gorgeous kid in the photo is me? Shall I keep you guessing? I thought about leaving it until tomorrow but I decided that I would tell you ... I am in the first row, second from the left. Wasn't I adorable back then?

Mum

I need my Mum no matter what age I am. My Mum has made me laugh ... wiped my tears ... hugged me tight ... watched me succeed ... saw me fall ... cheered me on ... kept me going strong ... ! But my Mum is a promise from God that I will have a friend forever! ♥ Mum I know you're in heaven right now shaking your head at me. I miss you! (Shared by my friend Pammy on FB today. It was perfect timing.)

Happy Birthday Mum

Skype is EVIL

I have come to realise that Skype is EVIL and very DEVIOUS! I am glad that I don't use it but my boys do. I have made Angus uninstall it. Brodie has his own internet connection now so its up to him whether he stops using it or not.

I guess I should explain why I believe it is evil. Don't get me wrong it does have it's good uses but they are awfully sneaky.

Unlike other VoIP services, Skype is a peer-to-peer system rather than a client–server system, and makes use of background processing on computers running Skype software; the original name proposed – Sky peer-to-peer – reflects this.
Some network administrators have banned Skype on corporate, government, home, and education networks, citing reasons such as inappropriate usage of resources, excessive bandwidth usage, and security concerns. (from wiki)

Take note of the quote above on the excessive bandwidth usage. Our internet data allowance gets reset on the 26th of each month. We have an AWESOME plan where we get 80 GB for peak times and 120 GB off-peak. Since our internet was reset 9 days ago we have used a whopping 36.5 GB of our peak time allowance. That was because Skype was running in the background of Angus's laptop.

When we switched to this plan a few months ago we weren't even reaching half of our allowance that is until last month when we used 3/4 of it. Now I know why. If you have a darned good internet connection Skype detects it and uses you as a 'server' for other Skype clients.

If you use Skype just make sure that you don't leave it open when you aren't using it or you may end up with all of you data allowance gone before you realise it.

Almost Done

My lovely model, Brodie, is holding up Angus's blanket to show how large it is.

Ta Da! I have almost finished Angus's blanket. It's not quite as large as Angus wanted it. So far I have used six 100g balls of black and white acrylic (3 white & 3 black). All I need to do is finish off the edging and its done. It feels like I have taken forever to make it. I have to admit that it is really warm. It's kept me nice & toasty over the past couple of weeks.

All I need to do now is work out what my next project will be. Perhaps some more baby stuff. I think I need something that will finish rather quickly considering this blankie took a while.

Thankful Thursday

Photobucket

Time flies when you are having fun! Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • for the news we received when Mark had his appointment with the cardiologist last Friday & that it was quite positive considering Mark has had chest pains on & off for ages.
  • for all the beautiful gardens I have seen when I have been out on my walks with the boys.
  • that even though its been pretty cold at night the days are slightly warmer with more & more sunshine. You gotta love that natural vitamin D
  • for my tv, yeah I know that is a bit of a silly one to be thankful for but there have been some funny and very entertaining shows on lately
  • that Brodie was open enough to tell me he needed to see the doctor (he's been officially diagnosed with depression)
  • and finally .... it's spring time!

GM_Spring
Yay! Today is the first OFFICIAL day of spring! My favourite time of the year!
