A Quick Hospital Visit

Not that I really wanted to share this but I am going in to hospital this morning for a colonoscopy. Just for the morning. My boys and mark have been making snide jokes about poop etc since last week when I was informed of the date of this procedure *sigh* not funny really. I am so not looking forward to it.
May they never need to take all that preparation stuff the day before and have a colonoscopy. Actually strike that thought. Maybe if they do need to have this done they wont be making any more jokes at my expense.

Hopefully I shall find out if I may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome or not. Not that I need another label to add to my already growing list of conditions. Cross your fingers that all goes well.

Thankful Thursday

 photo ThankfulThursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • pedestal fans - I don't know if it is because the weather has been warmer, more humid or the fact that I am peri-menopausal or what but my fans have been getting a lot of use lately and I am very grateful that I am able to use them
  •  my crocheting of course (~_o) I love it when I still have my crojo-mojo going and I know what I will be making.
  • cool changes with lots of cool soaking rain
  • unexpected visits from my in-laws. It's always nice to see Bill & Paula. They popped around for lunch on Tuesday. They had travelled down from Queensland for a wedding & called in to see us.

What are you thankful for this week?

Video: Fibromyalgia: What are the symptoms? | YvesyM

This is just some of the stuff Mark goes through every day.
He feels like he is never able to plan anything because he never knows what each day will be like when he wakes up. Will it be his 'normal' bad day or a very bad day as far as his fibro-fog and pain are concerned. I know he gets frustrated all the time.
I really hate seeing him suffer and I wish that I could make things better for him.
We need to take it one day at a time, right?

WIP - Crochet - The Midwife Blanket

I know I have made a few Midwife blankets before but this time round I wanted to make a multicoloured one. Normally I have only used one colour. I am really liking how this one is turning out. In order to break up the pattern and make it look a little better I have chosen to do two rows of double crochet (US single crochet) in between.

I am using Ice Yarns Baby soft. I shall be setting this blanket aside to possible take to one of the local nursing home facilities. With Winter coming in a few months I am sure that the residents there would like a little lap blanket or two to keep them warm.

Thankful Thursday

 photo ThankfulThursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • cooler weather
  • less humidity
  • going out for lunch with my Visiting Teachers. It was nice to spend some time out of our home and with some female company!
  • Relief Society activities - our ward had such a fun activity celebrating the 175th birthday of RS. It was nice to be out, without the boys & Mark, and having a laugh and lots of good conversation
  • being able to knit a lovely baby kina
  • finding some bargains on eBay - I bought some circular knitting needles. I'm thinking I had better star doing some more knitting now, instead of just crocheting
What are you thankful for this week?

Finished Item - Knitting - Baby Kina

My wrist and arm had recovered enough so I could complete this project relatively pain free.
I'm not too sure what was going on with my arm, other than the fact that my meds changed and it was the same arm (shoulder) which had the torn ligament a few years back. Perhaps it is all connected.

Anyway, the baby Kina is complete and it looks really good. I shall be putting it with one of the blankets I have made for Brodie's friend, Kat, who is expecting a baby girl next month.

WIP - Knitting - Baby Kina

I wanted to use some of my Ice Yarn that I purchased a little while ago but I didn't want to make another blanket using it. I decided that I would give knitting another go. of course it took a while to work out what project to begin. I finally decided on making a short sleeved Baby Kina. It's a paid pattern of Ravelry.
So far so good with the knitting but I believe I need to purchase some longer needles. Either that or some circular ones. I've been eyeing off a set or two on eBay.

It has been awfully warm for the past week and I am struggling with the heat indoors and wanting to knit. It hasn't stopped me but I am leaving it until the evenings when it's been a little cooler.
There were a couple of cooler days but it warmed up again rather quickly. I will be so glad when autumn finally arrives and this indian summer disappears! I need my cooler weather!

I haven't been able to knit for a couple of days. My right wrist and arm have been awfully sore. I'm not sure if it is to do with the exercise group I go to and that I pushed myself hard or it could be the fact that my medication for my arthritis has changed. It could be a possibility that it is both of these things. Either way it has slowed me down.

E Books via BookBub

I have been using a website called BookBub where you can search for e-books for your kindle from Amazon (Apple, Google and Kobo are available also). They send daily emails with books that you might find interesting depending on the genres you have chosen when you sign up with them.

You won't believe how many books I have snagged this way and the bonus is that a lot of them are freebies. In fact I have so many books to read on my kindle now I don't think I will ever get through them all.

I also use Goodreads to find great books to add to my already large To Read list. If you use Goodreads and wish to add a friend you can find my profile HERE.

Thankful Thursday

 photo ThankfulThursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • pedestal fans - even though it is officially autumn I believe that Mother Nature hasn't yet finished with the warmer weather. So the fan has come in handy quite a lot recently.
  • kitty cat snuggles. Both Issy and C.K. have been rather snuggly lately
  • getting wonderful reactions to the three baby blankets I gave out at Church to three expecting Mums (well one was a Dad and he was over the moon & commented that his wife will love it). it is great to know that the blankets will be cherished and are appreciated.
  • my wonderful husband who tells me every day how much he loves me
  • Mark & the boys spending time together, separately of course. As Brodie puts it they have bonding time

What are you thankful for this week?

These do look really good though.

I also couldn't go past these rainbow cupcakes. They look really bright and colourful.

Finished Item - Crochet c2c Scrapghan

Yay I finally managed to sew in all of those horrid ends of yarn from all of the colour changes I had done during the making of this scrapghan.

I love how it turned out but I really dislike having to sew in all the ends. I probably should have sewn them in as I went along but I didn't just in case I made a mistake and needed to pull it apart, which I had done earlier on in the blanket. When I sew ends in I do it so they never come out.

Anyway, it is complete and it looks amazing!! Although I do wonder if I should place a border around it. It edges do look 'finished' but perhaps a border might make it look better. I was thinking perhaps a navy blue. I may just leave it as it is.

Now I need to work out what I am making next ...

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • cooler weather
  • lots of blue skies and sunshine
  • Autumn - although I am still waiting for the leaves to start changing colour
  • kitty cat cuddles
  • walks in the park with Brodz
  • getting x-rays done - in the hopes of finding out what is wrong with my left leg (knee and hip) hopefully there is something that can be done for them, although I have no idea what. At least a diagnosis if nothing else.

What are you thankful for this week?

VIDEO: How to Braid Your Own Hair

I've been wearing my hair up a bit recently. Mainly due to the warmer weather (so much for it being autumn). I was hoping one of the boys remembered how to do plaits. Brodz was busy and Angus had no idea. So I went hunting on youtube and I found a neat video on how to braid your own hair.

My hair is no where near as long as this but I did manage to do a french braid. There was only one problem. My arms got tired by the time I got halfway through. I really like the look of the fishtail braid though. It looks very neat and tidy.

Diabetes Update

I had my Diabetes Cycle of Care appointments on Thursday. It was time to get my height and weight checked (I hate the scales) and to see which services I might need to utilise and when I had my last checks with the optometrist, dentist, podiatrist, dietitian, diabetes educator, etc. I have found that I need to ask my GP to do the routine blood tests as well. I'm not sure that is a good thing or not. I know doctors get busy but to have to ask for tests to be done. At least he has a brilliant 'bedside' manner and explains things really well that makes up for it.

To be honest I have been feeling, for lack of a better term, burnt out when it comes to my diabetes. I am tired of checking my blood every day. I am tired of watching what I eat all the time. I want that piece of chocolate or that piece of cake when I want it and not just every so often. I don't have the energy to go for walks.
My hip and knees hurt far too often for my liking. I definitely have osteoarthritis in my right knee and I probably have it in my left also. I also have trochanteric bursitis in my left hip/leg. My GP has given me a request form for some x-rays so I shall get that done this coming week. My exercise physiologist has given me some exercises which should help, in his words, strengthen my bum muscles which in turn shall help my knees and hips.

I ended up seeing my diabetes educator yesterday. She said there really wasn't all that much that could be done about being 'burnt out'. That you just need to ride it out. Well that's great advice, NOT. She did however suggest that I see the practise nurse and talk to her about maybe seeing an osteopath and perhaps to even get a mental health plan started. It's worth a try I guess. If I don't look after myself who will look after Mark and the boys with their medical issues.

Finished Items - Crochet Baby Blanket

I used Sean Sheep yarn for this baby blanket. It's very similar to the previous one I shared only in a lighter shade. To be honest I think I prefer the darker one. Which do you prefer?

There was no pattern for these. I chained around 80 stitches and did plain treble crochet using a 6.5 mm hook. it's super soft and perfect for baby items.

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • sunny days
  • air-conditioner and pedestal fans - Autumn has officially started but I think the weather has forgotten that it has meant to cool down. It looks like we are in for an indian summer!
  • hearing good things from the neurology department at the Austin Hospital. Yay Brodz!!
  • Angus is expanding his recipe range, he made a delicious strawberry cheesecake for us last weekend. Yum!
