Video: One Pot Chef: Jam Donut Tray

This looks really delicious but I certainly wouldn't cut as big a slice to serve as he did.
I would probably serve it with a dollop of cream or a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

WIP - Crochet - Temperature Blanket - Week 8

I am finding it difficult to try to get the whole blanket into the photo this week. The larger it gets the more I need to fold it in order to get it into the picture.

As you can see there have been quite a few warmer days this week. Lots of orange with some dark red (that day was 39°C - over 100°F) and even a red day thrown in there. Yesterday was so much nicer with the maximum not quite reaching 22°C, much better temperatures in my book!

The forecast for next week should have a few more orange and red days. Not quite my cup of tea that's for sure!At least there's a nice variety of colours in the blanket.

WIP - Crochet - Baby Coat

I started a new pattern the other day using some super soft patons self patterning yarn. I just LOVE the yarn but for this particular project it looked wrong. So I've set this yarn aside for now and chose something else.

The yoke for the coat using the Patons yarn.

The pattern (JC40B) I am attempting is from Just Crochet. You can find it HERE.
I have chosen lemon this time.

Not quite finished yet. Although I have sewn up the sleeves and woven in the ends.
Just the collar and the buttons to sew on.

Thankful Thursday

 photo ThankfulThursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • being able to spend some time alone with each of the boys while out walking. It gives us the chance to have a chat about different things.
  • completing several crochet items
  • pedestal fans
  • Summer is almost officially over. I can't wait for Autumn!
  • being able to put my feet up after a very busy week last week with lots of running around

What are you thankful for this week?

Video: Dogs Just Don't Want To Have A Bath

I was laughing so much at some of the reactions of these dogs. Especially the ones who can't wait to jump into the water and the dog that hid under the bed.

The dogs that were growling.Well, if I was there owners I would not want to be taking them anywhere near the water. Not unless they were muzzled or slightly sedated. I would definitely be calling Dr Harry (he's a vet who works on Better Homes and Gardens) for some help with them. They were scary!

Finished Item - Crochet - Baby Dress

It didn't take me long to finish that baby dress I started the other day.
The baby dress pattern is from Just Crochet.

Back of the dress

I was about to run out of the white yarn and decided that I would finish the dress off with a pink row. I believe it looks quite pretty with a pink hem line.

Front of the dress

I don't have enough of the same white yarn to make the bonnet or the sandals which is a shame as I think they would have been gorgeous in the same colours.

Top view.

Now to decide on what to make next.

Finished Item - The Midwife Blanket No.3

I finished this blanket the other day but I for got to share what it looked like. Oops. At least it looks pretty and it's done. AND to keep with the Call the Midwife thing I started watching season 4 the other day. Gosh I LOVE that show. Chummy is my favourite character but spunky Sister Evangelina is pretty good too. She may come across a bit grumpy but she really has a good heart.

The true colour of the yarn isn't shown in this photo.

The colour in this photo looks better. I took it by the window so it was all natural lighting.

I Purchased Some New Crochet Patterns & WIP

A few years ago the only patterns I seemed to have used for baby clothing were created by Heather from Just Crochet. The other day I bought four more patterns from her. I love how Heather writes the patterns up in both UK and US terms. I know how to follow patterns with either terminology but I prefer the UK terms if possible. It's just what I am used to.

The patterns I bought were:
I started making the dress in a mint green but I made a boo-boo and I had to frog it. I'm crossing fingers that I can complete my second attempt without another mistake. At least I caught it before I got too many rows done. I have put the green away for when I make one of the boy patterns up. I have a fair amount of baby yarn so I am using pink and white for now.

WIP - Crochet - Temperature Blanket - Week 7

49 rows completed and it's getting more difficult to take a photo of my blanket. I had to fold it over on the floor and I still didn't manage to get it all in to the shot. Oh well.

oops sorry the photo is a bit blurry.

We've had a few days in the high teens this week, hence the light blue in the middle of all that green (low 20's). I'm thinking today might be another green row but possibly edging closer to an orange row. The boys and I, before we check the maximum temperature for the day, try and guess what colour I will be adding to the blanket.
Anything to add a bit of fun, right?

Thankful Thursday

 photo Thankful_Thursday.jpg

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • cool changes - we've had lots of warm weather recently and I am enjoying the cooler nights that come with a cool change. It will make sleeping so much more pleasant.
  • my crochet - I love that I have my crochet mojo back. Deciding on what new pattern to create from isn't all that easy though *sigh*
  • checking out that Art show last weekend. There are lots of talented people around.
  • friends who offer to help out with obtaining a c-pap machine for Angus. He had his appointment last week with the sleep specialist.
  • being able to help a friend of the boys who had a seizure. He was on his own in a town an hours drive away from home. Angus and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
  • catching up with people at the Diabetes Support Group

What are you thankful for this week?

Art Exhibition

Brodie and I went to an Art exhibition in town over the weekend. It's part of the Ficifolia Festival. There are so many talented artists around. They even had a section for fibre art and wearable art. If I had known that I would have entered some of my crochet... oh well. Here's some photos of the artwork I really enjoyed looking at.

The family of Kookaburras is my favourite. They look so realistic!

This one was on a tile and looked amazing!

The water looks so inviting. Especially when we were there at the exhibition. It was a HOT morning and we had been walking about town before we went to check out the artwork on the way home.

The galahs ^^ above ^^ are my favourite native bird. I had a pet one once who used to chat away telling everyone he was a pretty bird.

The eyes of the cat in this painting looks amazingly real.

The one above is a mosaic tile. (sorry it's not the best photo)  It shows the main area of the town we live in. I love it.

A Purple people eater hat - crocheted of course

The dress is knitted but the hat and bag are crocheted.

Love the combie van.

Finished Item - Crochet - Call the Midwife Blanket in Blue

I love this shade of blue. It looks so bright.
I am still loving how these blankets turn out. I actually made this one larger than the pattern stated. I chained 150 stitches (at least I think it was that many - I did write it down somewhere).

Time to put the blanket aside for my niece. I might make some more stuff before I post it over to her.

Happy Valentine's Day

Not that we celebrate Valentine's day in our home. Mark and I believe that love should be celebrated ALL year round not just specifically on one day but if anyone in my home (or from anywhere else for that matter) was every inclined to give me a present please take note of the following picture ☺☺☺

♪♫♪ Happy Birthday to Me ♫♪♫

 photo noname.jpg

This sewing box is replacing my 36 year old sewing box that is falling apart.

I went shopping yesterday at Spotlight with Angus to buy some things for my birthday.
I love how I was able to purchase the sewing box at half the price!
The yarn winder I received earlier this week is also for my birthday.

The yarn in the bag is just like the blue yarn I used for a Call the Midwife blanket.
This colour is a shade of green not that you can tell in this photo.

5 balls of yarn for $10 .. yes I know there is more than 5 there but they were on special. 30% off!!

I'm not sure what the boys will give me, other than some dvds, because they are both asleep at the moment. From what they have hinted at they are from TV shows that I love.
I am guessing Call the Midwife will be one of them.
I'll let my babies sleep and I shall find out later.

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:
  • my crocheting - it helps keep me sane
  • mild weather
  • pedestal fans - they come in handy when it's humid
  • long talks on the phone with my sister, Vicki, and finding out how the family in Adelaide are going
  • chatting with my Dad on the phone and having a laugh with him even though he thought I was my niece at one stage and my other sister, Julie. At least he sounded happy! Dementia can be cruel sometimes.
  • exercise class - and making sure I work hard while I am there. Sounds odd I know but it makes me feel good

What are you thankful for this week?

WIP - Crochet - Call the Midwife Blanket in Blue

I decided to use all of this blue yarn in another 'The Midwife" blanket.
I'm making this one for my niece, Heidi, who is expecting a baby in July.

Here's what I've made so far.

I seem to be whipping this thing up quite quickly.
It wont be long before I've completed this one too!
