Squares for Nepal
The Relief Society presidency in our Ward sent a call out for knitted and crochet squares last Sunday so that blankets can be made for the people of Nepal, where that horribly devastating earthquake struck a few weeks ago.
Of course, you know how much I love to crochet. I didn't hesitate at picking up my hook and some scrap yarn to make squares to donate for such a worthy reason. This was just a couple of evenings work. I have made a few more since this photo was taken. I'll add them to the rest and take them in this coming weekend. I am sure I have a couple of completed blankets I can add to this collection. The people of Nepal need to feel some love and care right now.

Thankful Thursday
Here's what I am thankful for this week:
- that my Dad is out of hospital and is at home
- that my sister, Vicki, is doing the best she can to look after Dad. She is amazing and I have told her that she is!
- that my other sister, Julie, doesn't live all that far away from Dad and is able to help out when she can
- my crochet and how it helps keep me sane!
- that we have had some nice weather and I have been able to get my washing dried outside even though it takes a couple of days for that to happen. We don't get a lot of sunshine in the back yard and we get even less on the clothesline but at least it gets dry ☺
- for the information and exercise class that I have been going to on a Wednesday evening. I have learned a few things but most of all I have learned that the pain I feel afterwards goes after a day or two. I am so thankful for that!

"I Just Need Some Space" - Meghan Trainor - "All About That Bass Parody
This was in my Facebook feed and since I love the original song I had to check this out.
It is really well done. Plus what Mum doesn't need some space to herself every now and then?

WIP - Crochet - Fairy Garden Blanket
There isn't much to show (yet) as I have only begun making the background squares. I am on my fifth square though. I've made 4 of the darker pink and I have started the lighter pink squares.
The complete pattern for the blanket may be found HERE on Ravelry.
This will be such a gorgeous blanket once it is done. Although at this stage I am only making it a
3 x 3 blanket instead of the 4 x 3 shown in the photo above.

Thankful Thursday
Here's what I am thankful for this week:
- Sunny weather. We have had a few days of wonderful weather this past week. It's been nice to soak up some sun and feel warm.
- Dad - although he's been in hospital this week. I am grateful that he is being cared for and that my sister Vicki is there as his advocate making sure he gets what he needs
- pain meds - gosh I must be getting old with all the creaks and moans that my body is making lately
- attending my Diabetes group exercise course. I have learned quite a bit this week and last week.
- my family. I love them to bits even if we are kooky and don't always get along as well as we should! ♥♥♥

Dad's in Hospital
I missed a phone call from my sister Julie this morning. I was at Church and had my phone on silent. I phoned her back as soon as I saw the message that she had left for me. I also phoned Vicki once I got home.
It turns out my Dad is in hospital again. He's bleeding from the bowel. Since it is the weekend there isn't much they can do as far as testing is concerned. They need to wait until tomorrow before they can check everything out properly.
They have him on a liquid diet at the moment and he is NOT impressed. I don't blame him actually. I would be unimpressed too. It makes it harder that he has dementia and really isn't coping all that well with being in hospital and being confined to bed. He likes to get up and walk around at home and potter about, check the letter box, sit on the veranda out the front, go out into the back yard or into the garage. Being stuck in a bed, let alone a hospital bed, would drive any one a little crazy.
Dad is going to be reassessed while he is in hospital. Vicki is terribly concerned that they wont let him come home and will want to send him to a nursing home. Both of my sisters are concerned that if Dad was placed in a nursing home he will give up and his health will go down hill if he wasn't able to stay at home. I think Dad just remembers what it was like when Grandpop (his Dad) was in a nursing home in the 1970's. Grandpop hated it and grumbled quite a bit. I am sure that Dad thinks it will be exactly the same for himself. Both Julie and Vicki agree that it wont be good for Dad and I can see my sisters point of view. It would do him more harm that good, right now at least.
Vicki is quite happy to keep helping Dad out as much as possible so that he can remain at home. As long as she gets the help she needs then that's okay. She needs to ask about respite and see if she can receive any extra assistance that is available. There will be a social worker coming to talk with her and Dad tomorrow. I hope Vicki remembers to voice all of her concerns and remembers to ask all the questions that she needs to. I hate to say that she stresses out a lot and gets flustered easily. Maybe I should have reminded her to write everything down before she sees them.
Now I just wait and I'll phone Vicki late tomorrow to find out what happened with the social worker, the assessment and the tests they will run.

Thankful Thursday
Here's what I am thankful for this week:
- being able to attend Brodie's neurologist appointment with him last week. I was able to describe to the doctor in detail the facial spasms that Brodie gets. He thinks that they may be temporal lobe seizures. Brodie needs to have a sleep deprived EEG to see if it can be confirmed or not.
- my crochet, as always. Anything that helps me relax is always a good thing (o_~)
- my boys, they spoiled me for Mother's Day. They bought me the first four seasons of Downton Abbey. I just LOVE that show!! Brodie and I managed to watch all of season one on Sunday ☺
- Enjoying a nice lunch with my Visiting Teachers. It was good to just have some 'girl' time for a change.
- Sunny days! With winter almost upon us I am really enjoying the sunshine while I can. We really do have four seasons in one day at the moment but the sunshine makes everything much better ☺
- Angus cooked tea for us on Sunday. He did an amazing job with the silverside. WTG kiddo! I think I'll let you cook for us more often :D

Thankful Thursday
Here's what I am thankful for this week:
- sunshine and mild weather last weekend. It was just beautiful.
- getting my washing dry before the wet weather arrived earlier this week
- having windscreen wipers that work on my car
- potentially finding my new GP, it's a long story but I am not very happy with the 'replacement' I chose once Dr F. retired last year
- eye drops - I have been having problems with one of my eyes. It's been feeling itchy and gritty. The drops have helped a bit. Cross your fingers for me that they keep working
- crochet - of course ☺it helps me relax

WIP - Crochet - Baby Blanket - Farm Animals
All the background squares are complete. Yay! Time for the applique.
I started working on a bright yellow duck and I am now up to sewing it all together today.
At least today's weather, since it is so wet and miserable outside, makes it perfect for crocheting!

Autumn Colours
There are so many pretty autumn leaves about right now. I took this photo on Sunday when I got out of my car at Church. Look at the beautiful red leaves. That would be an amazing colour for some yarn! So pretty.

Dad
I just got a call from my sister Vicki saying Dad had a fall. She found him on the floor this morning 😕 and had no idea how long he was lying there. He is such a worry. The ambos checked him out and didn't think he needed to go to the hospital.
I worry about him. He is 87 now and still living on his own. He refuses to move into a nursing home. I am wondering what will happen if he falls again.

WIP - Crochet - Baby Blanket
I am making another blanket. I know they seem to be about the only thing I make right now but I do enjoy creating them. This one is for a family at Church who are expecting a baby in a few months.
Choosing colours can be a challenge at times when I make baby blankets. I don't always want to choose the usual soft pinks and blues. I have had this gorgeous salmon colour for a while now and I managed to pick some more of the same a few months back from the Wangaratta Woollen Mill. Well their online shop anyway.
I took a completed salmon square into our local yarn store, well not that local it is in the next town. Angus came with me and helped me choose this lovely teal colour. It looks really nice with the salmon as you can see with the photo below.
I have now completed all of the salmon coloured squares and I shall begin the teal ones shortly. Then the exciting part. Making the applique to go on them. I'll be creating a farm animal blanket like the one I just completed. Then I will need to work out what colours to use for the borders. That might present as a little bit of a challenge. After all what nice colours go with these two and would still look good for a baby?
