Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:

  • Visiting Teachers - it's always nice to catch up with my visiting teachers. I don't always get many opportunities to talk to other women. Most of my time is spent with Mark and the boys. I just can't talk 'girl' stuff with them. They get bored.
  • pain medication - I've needed it quite a bit these past few days. I just can't wait for my hand to be pain free. These pins and needles I've been having are just horrid.
  • spring cleaning - Mark and the boys cleaned up the lounge room. It look so much tidier now. Thank you.
  • crossword puzzles - they help me keep me busy while I can't crochet
What are you thankful for this week?

My Chefs

The boys and Mark have been taking turns cooking dinner since I had my operation last week.
I have supervised when the boys cooked and the boys have done a great job.

Brodz cooked tortellini carbonara

Angus cooked rissoles and veggies. He also cooked lamb chops and veggies last night. YUM!!

I Feel Under-dressed

I finally took the bandage off my wrist yesterday afternoon. It felt really weird not having the extra padding there. Apart from the fact that it kept my wrist warm (it's winter here) it helped my wrist feel more secure. I'm kind of worried that I may accidentally bump it now :-/

My fingers still feel a teeny bit swollen. I'm itching to put my rings back on my finger but I'm not quite game enough to do it yet. They do manage to slide on and off very easily though.

I am dying to pick up my crochet hook again but I don't dare over do it. Not after driving the car yesterday and hurting myself. I guess I shall keep working on my crosswords puzzles. Thank goodness there are lots of puzzles in the book I bought. I am already on puzzles 6 as it is. Let's hope my wrist is better before I run out of puzzles.

Someone please remind me not to touch the palm of my hand :'( I could've cried when I touched it just now.

Driving Too Soon

I think I over did it today. I drove to Church this morning which was all good no problems except for taking the hand brake off. It hurt my hand a bit to push the button in. My wrist ached a bit while we were at Church. I could handle that. I taught my little sunbeam class and once the children all went in for swimming time I asked if the Primary President if she minded if I went home. Yes, no problem. The children had a lesson with me and there were lots of others who could supervise the children for the remainder of the time.

The boys and I hopped in the car for the drive home. I reversed the car and tried to steer the car using both my left and right hands (to straighten the car up) when I got this awful pain in my hand. OOPS. It ached like crazy on the way home. Thankfully now it has all settled down now.

I'm thinking I got behind the wheel too soon. That being said I just get so tired of waiting for Mark to be ready to do stuff. He has his own health issues to deal with and by the time he is awake and alert to do the things that I need to do the day is almost done. I hate sounding ungrateful but it is very frustrating when you can't be as independent as you usually are. I just want my hand to get better fast so that I don't need to rely on others so much.

T-Shirt Yarn

I came across this video on youtube this morning on how to make t-shirt yarn. One day I am going to have to try this. I would love to make a couple of bathroom mats from old t-shirts.

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful for this week:

  • successful operations - everything went smoothly yesterday and I am so grateful for that
  • pain medication - I saved some super duper strong pain meds from when I hurt my shoulder and I had to take a couple of them last night just so I could get some sleep
  • a loving family - Mark and the boys have been so helpful. Helping me get dressed/undressed, opening cans of soft drink, giving me a cat to snuggle, driving me around and cooking meals. I know I will be relying on them a lot over the next few weeks while I am convalescing and it means a lot to me that they are bending over backwards to help me.
  • crossword books - a substitute for crocheting
  • caring Facebook friends - I love how there are people who I have never met are so thoughtful and full of love & understanding
  • that Mark was able to have an ultrasound done this week. We get the results tomorrow afternoon when we see the doctor for a follow up appointment
  • being able to laze about in my pj's
What are you thankful for this week?

I've Had Wrist Surgery Today

I had surgery on my wrist this afternoon. I had to be at the hospital for 11:30 am and I got home around 4 pm. Day surgery is a good thing! Especially when everything goes well.

I thought I would've been given a general anaesthetic but I wasn't. I was hoping for a nap because I didn't sleep very well last night. Instead I was given something to make me drowsy while I was given a local in my wrist. The weirdest thing was I was awake for the whole procedure. I even felt a bit of pain so I was given another local (which hasn't worn off yet).

I'll be out of action for a few days. At least while I have to use the sling and keep my arm elevated. I wont be crocheting for a while but I did buy myself a crossword book to fill in the time.

Finished Item - Crochet - Beanies

Yesterday morning I posted the blanket and these two beanies to my niece, Kylie.
I had to squish everything into a 3 kg prepaid satchel. It was hard going but I did it. I think it took me almost 5 minutes to shove it all into the satchel without wrecking it (the satchel that is).

Today is going to be a busy day. Well sort of busy. I am taking Mark to get an ultrasound done on his upper abdomen. I am hoping that we will be able to find out whether he has gall stones or not. He is suffering with the pain. I'm crossing my fingers that it isn't anything serious.
Later in the day we have someone from the Shire coming over for Brodie. We will be able to talk about how he is going to get funding so he can continue at Yooralla Day Services among other things. His previous funding has ceased now that he is 21.

Anyway I better be off so we can head off for Marks scan.

Knitting & Crochet Magazine

I saw this advertised on TV on Friday night so when I saw it in the shops on Saturday morning I had to buy it. It was calling my name, honest ☺

Sadly the hooks don't have any sizes marked on them (the packaging said they are 4 mm & 4.5 mm) but the knitting needles are 7 mm. Projects range from tea cosies and cushion covers to cowls, hats, scarves and jumpers.

I look forward to trying some of these projects once I finish making the baby blanket for my niece, Allie, and the beanies for another niece, Kylie. The hardest part will be choosing which one to start first ☺

Men Can Be So Stubborn

What a week! Last Sunday night I had to take Mark to the hospital because he was suffering from severe abdominal pain. The thing is he had been suffering for ten whole days before he even told me about it *rolls eyes* typical bloke, right?  He had been suffering from this while the boys and I were visiting family in Adelaide and he never told me. I could've kicked his bottom for not telling me. It turns out that he may have gall stones and the pain is in the area where his liver/gall bladder is. We went to see one of the doctors at our clinic on Monday morning to get a referral for an ultrasound. He is now booked in for one next Tuesday. We go back to the doctor on Friday to get the results.

That little white dot in the pupil is the aluminium fragment.
On Monday night Mark was working in his shed grinding something with his dremel. He had been wearing safety glasses. He took them off to examine what he was working on when he saw that there was a small piece that needed to be removed. So he got the dremel and began working on it. This time however he did not put the safety glasses back on. You can see where I am going here, right? You got it. The piece of metal flew off and got him in the eye. In the pupil to be precise *OUCH* Guess what?!?! We had another trip down to the hospital.

Thankfully the rest of the week was uneventful at least on the medical front. Knock on wood that there are no more 'emergencies' coming up!

WIP - Crochet - Granny Square Blanket

I'm making my niece, Kylie, a blanket in our football teams colours.
I made one just like this for her daguther, Lee-Anne, while I was on holiday. I just managed to finish that one the night before we left to come home.

I'm hoping to complete this one and get it posted off soon. I have this blanket to finish and one for another niece (that new zoo blanket I started). I want to get them done before July 23rd. That's when I am scheduled to have surgery on my wrist.

Cute Crochet Pattern For A Boys Blanket

Last night when I was checking my news feed on Facebook I came across a post by Moogly about a pattern from Knot Your Nana's Crochet. I just love the patterns that Heather has created. Of course I had to check it out and as soon as I saw it I knew that I had to purchase it. I mean how could I not. How cute is this blanket??

The blanket/pattern is called Boys will be boys. It's just adorable! I don't know how I missed this pattern when it was released. I bet you can guess what blanket I will be making soon!

Thankful Thursday

Here's what I am thankful this week:

  • returning safely from our holiday interstate
  • family - it was great seeing everyone again. The boys loved spending time with their aunties and cousins.
  • mild weather while we were on holiday
  • heaters - it was pretty darned cold yesterday. Cold enough to snow but not where we live *sigh*
  • crochet - I made a blanket for one of my nieces while we were in Adelaide
  • adding to my yarn stash - I brought home two shopping bags full of yarn
  • finding lots of things on sale - I bought quite a few new clothes for the boys and I (well mostly me) while on hols and I bought Mark a new coffee machine
What are you thankful for this week?

We Went To The Football

I took the boys to their first ever Port Adelaide match last night.  We went with my sister Vicki and 5 of their cousins.  The atmosphere was amazing.  We lost by two points :( but at least the boys can say they have now been to a home game.
